I've been a Rockets fan for 24 years and since I was 11. Tilman is ending my fandom and I'm genuinely upset and bothered by it. Both sad and upset at the same time. He lied about spending and from the very start has made the decisions that led to all this. He is the new Dolan. Truly. Arrogant and doesn't really care about winning. Only cares about winning in terms of his pocket book. He bought a team with a top 3 player, true championship caliber roster and one of the best GMs. Just a few years later it is all gone. You all know this obviously. I'm sorry for creating a thread. I felt the need to vent but I'm also curious who else is truly leaning towards ending their fandom of the Rockets? I just can't support an owner who's a jerk in real life and a cheap skate moron with the team.
At least we got draft picks again. Also better we accept our rebuild now than after our remaining assets lose value.
It’ll take a lot more than a crappy owner to end my fandom of the Rockets. If anything I won’t be eating at Fertitta’s restaurants (not that there are any where I’m based) and I don’t gamble so no casino money from me! But I’d like to think that somehow, someway Tilman can regain our trust because I’m stupidly optimistic about things like sports. To me the Rockets are more than an owner, they’re an extension of the fans and the people of Houston—both of whom I’ve come to love! So even if we’re lottery bound for a couple of years, you can count on me to watch damn near every game I can
My fandom can't make me eat mediocre food frequently even if Tilman were to be a good owner. I admit that the CF board is more important than the Rockets, there I said it. But the board exists as long as there will a franchise, all intertwined.
You might want to recalibrate your expectation of 'a couple of years', the sooner the better for your sanity.
Correct, the Rockets are NOT the owner. the Rocket have many owners. Just like a house or a car. just because you don't like the person who drives the car, doesn't mean you hate the car. it's the driver.
I'm not from Houston I always loved this teams aura, cool players, jerseys... and then my childhood idol got traded here. I followed and I stayed. Im on this forum essentially from like 2004 when I searched for news (I was creator of rockets fans website localy) but with this ****er Feritta on top I might just had enough. TBH Moreys microball was giving me same thoughts - since CP trade there wasn't too much basketball in Houston just some caricature of it. Once I saw Harden don't want JVG and is pitching Lucas I knew this team is over and tbh with Feritta team may never recover. He had all the best cards and it only took him 2 years to get on Minnesota level
It’s just sports, I won’t lie and say I don’t get bummed out when we come up short but at the end of the day I won’t allow it to affect my wellbeing too much. Plus I have Clutchfans to vent to if I ever get frustrated!
But you don't get in that car and ride with them. I'm not becoming a fan of another team. No way I can do that but I also can't support Tilman.
I'm right there with you @levintblack, the 24 years of fandom (beginning at 11) and everything. This is not very fun. Over the years, I never thought the leadership was incompetent. Sure, things didn't always (usually?) go our way, but it never seemed to be the fault of leadership. The way Fertitta has totally bungled such a strong position is so disappointing. The upside is maybe he's willing to actually go through the rebuild process. Covington on the way out seems to indicate this. Morey never had the luxury, having to constantly rebuild on the fly, squeezing his "assets" for value. Morey's influence is still there in the organization, with his disciple at the helm. There's a promising young coach to lead the team. Maybe this rebuild can work out. It's really hard to let go of Harden.. he's an incredible talent, still in his prime. We've been here before, having to let go of Hakeem, Clyde, Barkley, McGrady and Yao. The stark contrast with those losses is that Harden is at an all-time peak value right now. Let's see what Stone and company can get in return for an all-time great.
You can associate all you want . The Knicks fans hate James Dolan and they are still Knicks fans. That’s your prerogative dude. I don’t care if the Rockets were owned by drug cartels Houston Rockets Vatos locos @Reeko
Charlie Thomas Les Tilman Whomever doesn’t change my fandom But I’m a 99er @Rocket River @Ziggy @Space Ghost We’re Rockets fans til the end of days This is the way It always has been
Covid affected college play for 2020's march madness. Who knows what colleges will do for 2021. Drafts aren't a sure thing but at least pre-covid NBA GMs could watch a sample of number games in colleges' regular seasons and the tournaments. The 2020-2021 schedule is set, but I fear with the pandemic things could change. They don't have the luxury of a bubble, it's fragile, things can get cancelled.
Agreed, but you can’t give up on your team either. I went to sleep disappointed, but woke up with a choice to live life as Rocket fan. Meanwhile I am hurt and pissed as the team I love is being demolished but because I am truthful with myself I also know it been broken for a long time. It had cracks when we got it. Looks good but any time there pressure the cracks are still there. No glue or tape is going to keep it together. MAYBE we will try once more. But this time owner owns the team; the players play. We will see, because as Rocket fans we will be waiting. I hope we make the playoffs!
Les had 3 bidders, thought he was doing the city a solid by picking a lower one with local ties. Oops.
When crap like this happens it always makes me wish that we the fans owned the team rather than some billionaire. Too bad that the Green Bay Packers are the only sports team owned by the city and or the fans
I'm with you. I would have been perfectly happy with Morey strategically managing a rebuild. This is just a dumpster fire.
