Does it work from this thread? I'm not busy for the next few....... ------------------ "Chucky who? I thought we were talking about basketball?" Charles Barkley
Yeah, having a poll 2 days after the Lakers won the championship can be very skewed. B/C they won the title, people will be jockin' Shaq for a while . . . ------------------ blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
One thing to remember is that this is to vote for the most dominant center of all time as opposed to the best center of all time. For instance, an argument can be made that Nolan Ryan is the most dominant pitcher of all time, but he is clearly not the best. ------------------
I voted for him 20 times. Now, I challenge everyone at this forum to vote for him 10 times. Imagine how much we can raise his %!!! ------------------ President of the (the Rockets first pick in the draft) fan club.
After voting, I tallied the results and I can actually see why the others are being voted over Olajuwan. ESPN would like nothing more than to keep Shaq high on the list because of the championship. I agree that using the word "dominant" plays heavy on this vote. If the questions was "best" I would say the Olajuwan sits alone on the podium. But with Wilt dominating offensively, Russell dominating defensively both in the early years of true basketball and Shaq to big to be stopped, I can see the point. Olajuwan dominated liked the others, but with the total package. The stuggle Olajuwan (from a popularity perspective) has always faced is an uphill battle by playing during the years where Jordan overshadowed him and attracted everyones attention, even our own. If Olajuwan played in the 60's, 70's or today, we might have different results, especially from a national audience. ------------------ Always on the run Randy
If Olajuwon ended his career in 95 or 96, then i might have considered him the best. ------------------
So every athelete should just kill themselves at their prime? Or go into hiding and one day come out in talk shows to blast the youngers players for not being as good as they were? ------------------
I too think the word "dominant" plays a part in the ranking of the players listed. If the key word is "dominant", then there is no question who should win. Wilt Chamberlain dominated like no player before him and no player ever will again. Shaq may have more basketball skills that Wilt (at least I have argued that), but the simple truth is Wilt's competition paled in comparison to Shaq's, therefore his dominance was much more complete. I think ESPN finally gave the Dream some credit by simply listing him in this friggin' poll. So, you're saying his 97 season numbers sucked? Let's see: 23.2 pts, 9.2 reb, 1.5 stl, 2.22 blk. Okay, so he was injured in 98 (only played in 47 games): 16.4 pts, 9.8 reb, 1.79 stl, 2.04 blk. Or maybe, his 99 season numbers sucked too, right? 18.9 pts, 9.6 reb, 1.64 stl, 2.46 blk. I am willing to bet that there are all-stars who didn't put up numbers that good in those three years. -------------------------- And, yes, I voted for Hakeem. ------------------ DREAMer's Rocket Page

Funny thing is if ESPN wrote an article comparing Shaq to Hakeem and then did this poll, Wilt would rank lower than Dream on the voting. ------------------ RealGM Gafford Art Artisan Cakes

only 3.0% for dream is kinda weak. i'm sure, if we all vote we could get him above jabbar. ------------------
