The last joke before the series starts.

Every Rocket players got a gift for playoff: a tape and a book--deep analysis of Lakers.

The book for Yao Ming has been translated into Chinese. Lakers("ŒÎlh) was wrongly translated to " ŒÓl" , which means "foreign invaders" .

Yao Ming Joked "it becomes a war a nation wages against foreign invaders.

Yes, Yao Ming. Fight it like a war against invaders and win it!:D

In the end it was just a game. You either play well or you don't. Yao is not going to INTEND to play with any more heart, determination, and energy than any of his teammates INTEND to do. They all want it just as bad. All that relying on some inner invisible strength to repeal foreign invaders is a bunch of CRAP.

You have to understand that this miamiflorida guy stated in a previous post that Americans like to boast 'we will win, we will be victorious, we will triumph' and that we create an extra burden upon ourselves that we are never able to live up to but that the Chinese rely on inner strength. Now he is posting about Yao fending off foreing invaders. I dont know if the guy just got a hold of the 'art of war' or what but I think Im reading him right when I say this is not just a basketball game between the Houston Rockets and Lakers but a battle involving general Yao that will have an effect upon his psyche in a way that affects his Chinese honor.

OK... I haven't seen his other post, and am not sure what exactly you're trying to say... but I'll leave it at that, doesn't sound too pleasant.

miamiflorida: do you have a link for what you posted? Where did you get that from?

miamiflorida just translated a part of Yang Yi's latest report. According to this report, every Rockets player got a book and a tape- about lakers. Yao's book were translated into Chinese. But the translater made a mistake. "The Lakers" was translated into "Tartars". So Yao joked that "it is going to be a national war."

Just to clarify even more (or maybe confuse even more), Yao received the book about Lakers. The translation for Lakers is "hu ren", or lake people. But the translater for Yao's book is also "hu ren", but the hu is a different word (the two words sounds but different things). The only time I've used the word used is when describing non-hans Chinese (ppl like tibetans, mongolians, and etc) in Chinese wuxia novels, typically are foreingers that fights with the hans. So Yao joked that they were going to war.

For the word for lake, it has a left part that means water.

    Relax.

Let me explain it to you. The two posts are two completely different threads. They are irrelevant.

For the invisible strength thing, I refer you to Amy Tan's "Joy Luck Club" and the first chapter of her "The Opposite of Fate".

In China, we do have a saying, "chou pi bu xiang, xiang pi bu chou,' which means "there is more power in silence" per se. That is why Chinese usually don't boast loudly. :)

it's interesting to watch Yao being more demonstrative as a result.
