Sarver probably saw what OKC was able to do and is now salivating at the thought of making the playoffs next season. I mean, it's quite possible...you remove CP3 from OKC and put him on your team, that immediately takes one playoff team out of the picture. Plus it'd probably be good for Booker and Ayton to have an adult/leader in the locker room for once.
That's on Fertitta, not Morey. Anyone without blinders on could see that over a year ago. Stop pushing your Morey hating rhetoric... he's already gone. There's nothing more left to gain here.
CP only has 2 seasons left on his deal and would cost little value, Booker is only 24, Ayton 22. This would make them better, give Book and Ayton playoff experience, and make the Suns look like a more attractive destination, and in 2 years when CP is expired, Booker is still under contract, Ayton is still on a rookie deal for them to look for that 3rd star to have a big run in their primes.
Man. At least I'm not a Suns fan. That trade makes no sense in regards to making the Suns a better team. Placing Chris Paul a veteran making that type of money with guys in their early 20s that would leave you almost no room to sign other players. But hell maybe we can get in on this deal and try and get Oubre. Would love to see him be like a Trevor Ariza like player for Houston.
If Chris Paul can leave a lasting impact on Book/Ayton/Oubre (assuming he stays and is a part of their core) then it'll be well worth the money. Suns have no respectable leadership. CP3 changes all that and will show them how to play winning basketball. I think his services would be invaluable. Doesn't he only have 1 year left anyway?
How is that on Fertitta? Harden and CP3 didn't get along with Harden visibly pouting because CP was handling the ball. If Morey's the guy in Harden’s corner, then he needed to intervene ALOT earlier. The same way he didn't intervene w/ James & Dwight. Stop blaming problems brewing before Tilman on Tilman. Morey's NEVER been a guy to manage egos
The reason the option of trading CP even came up was because of the ALTERCATION HE HAD WITH JAMES FOLLOWING THE TERRIBLE LOSS TO GS. JAMES WANTED CP GONE AND THATS WHY WE TRADED HIM. EVERYTHING IS DOCUMENTED
The Wild West becomes far more interesting than it should be. We're are expecting some shortened season, say 70 games.
He's a good player but he's not a leader like Chris Paul. You can always find solid 3&D players every year but Chris can shift the dynamics of a team--especially a young team like this--for the better. This also puts Mikal Bridges in the spotlight at the 3. If he can't cut it as a starting 3 with CP3 in the backcourt then the Suns need to move on from him.
i kinda figured after the "bubble suns" undefeated tour that they would want to see what they have without bringing in anyone new, or at least anyone older. but i guess they can book their "painful first round loss" tickets now.
IMO this is a directive from Sarver because to your point they were gelling during the bubble run and they should be afforded more time to see if that was a fluke or not. I think Sarver saw his team and then watched OKC and said "I got to get CP3 on this team!"
The Suns are too good for high lottery picks now, bringing in CP is a great move. Trading the 1st was stupid, but the bones of Rubio/Oubre for CP is good.
