Which coach will take care of the defense?

I'm really surprised by this narrative that Silas needs former His on his staff because he's a rookie HC.

he's got 20 years of experience on the bench and more experience in the playoffs than both Lucas and Hornacek combined. Silas is the more experienced coach. he doesn't need mentors. he IS the mentor. (AKA Walter White "I am the one who knocks!")

instead of focusing on former HC's the rockets should've focused on a defensive coordinator.

Silas said he wanted several former head coaches on his staff.

The Rockets are hoping Weaver will run their defense.

is there any word if he's going to end up getting the job in OKC?

I can't imagine him choosing NOP over the Rockets for assistant if not.

I haven’t heard anything on that front. My gut is that Weaver gets the OKC job, but who knows.

I'm intrigued by weaver. is there any room left on the bench after hiring the magic's player development guy?

If the Rockets can get Weaver, they will. He would handle the defense most likely.

Yes there should be room, it really comes down to what Silas is comfortable with and what Tilman will spend.

Right now I consider the staff to be average. It isn’t the worst but it is well behind the staffs in Philadelphia, Los Angeles or even Minnesota or New York or New Jersey

Not sure the Rockets are better than the Nets or Philadelphia. Let’s see how the season plays out.

Regardless, all those teams have massively better assistant coaches.

Possibly. Weaver makes a huge difference. I also don’t know who else they intend to add or keep off the staff from last year.

There are still a few quality assistants looking for jobs.

@Nook Who was MDA's top defensive assistant in the playoffs against the Lakers and OKC? Is he still available for another contract?
