PS5 review samples are out and there's an Auto-HDR feature similar to the one on XBox, weird they didn't advertise this. But I'm definitely happy to know it's there.

The VRR and ALLM are currently not activated, but stated in the official specs, so Sony is likely waiting for the official hdmi 2.1 ratification.

In this video they are testing basic backwards compatibility and not games that were specially patched for PS5, like Days Gone, Tsushima etc.

All games they tested run on PS5's full power and according to them nearly feel like remasters.
FPS drops are basically eliminated by hitting the FPS caps constantly and graphics are also sharper.

So this is on par with what XBox does and they should've imo advertised it way more.

    After having finished the video:
The PS5 hits the 60fps or 30fps 100% of the time (except for some old Ubisoft titles, see next paragraph) and tops the XSX which has minor FPS drops in many titles, so the PS5 seems to be the best option if you want to enjoy games from your backlog.

There seem to be some issues with older Ubisoft titles like AC:Unity that have a unique engine and are unpatched, so this might get fixed. XSX displays Unity in 60fps pretty much constantly for example, but the PS5 doesn't utilize the GPU fully somehow for that engine.

    DF's review of the PS5:
    https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/playstation-5-review-digitalfoundry

    Some nice tidbits:
"First of all, similar to Series X, I think that noise is basically a non-issue with PlayStation 5. Close-up to the console, you can hear the slight whir of the fan, but in living room, office or bedroom conditions, this totally disappears into the ambient noise. Fan speeds (and thus noise) also seem remarkably consistent, and even ramping up power draw as much as I could with Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales in photo mode - and then leaving the console alone for an hour - PlayStation 5 continued to be just as cool and quiet. The thermal photography of the system under load is literally illuminating."

"One final note on power: Rest Mode is extraordinarily efficient at just 1.5W average utilisation once the system is fully dormant and even PS4 Pro works out pretty well here too. The difference in power draw compared to turning the machine off completely is essentially negligible."

"Another key aspect of the PlayStation 5 design I want to address is the DualSense controller - which surpasses expectations, and actually presents a profound challenge to journalists in that describing how wonderful it is will never hold a candle to simply holding the controller and giving it a go. "

"First of all, the design of the pad itself is exceptional, mirroring the high quality, premium feel of the entire experience. Sticks feel better, the d-pad massively so. The resistive triggers feel a little strange initially, but once you dive into Astro's Playroom, everything makes sense. DualSense feels revolutionary. Surfaces over which Astro walks can be felt through the pad, the wind and particles of a sandstorm are perfectly recreated, while the unique tension of a spring is uncannily represented. When it rains, it almost feels as if you can feel the individual drops hitting Astro."

The 3d audio seems to be a bit underwhelming according to them, not on the level of binaural or anything game-changing.

They gotta roll out Dolby Atmos man. They're making this unnecessarily complicated. It's like when Samsung lays in an OS or voice assistant over Android.

Atmos is already available for XBox One and PC, binaural audio would even work with every platform and is arguably better.

It just seems to be a case of devs not giving a F really, only a handful of games support binaural audio or Atmos.

"Mass Effect Legendary Edition will include single-player base content and DLC from Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3, plus promo weapons, armors, and packs – all remastered and optimized for 4k Ultra HD. It will be available in Spring 2021 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, with forward compatibility and targeted enhancements on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. More information to come in the new year!"

Dope, exactly what we've hoped for.

Would be cool if they also implemented the ME2 or 3 combat system in the first game, it aged pretty bad and feels pretty sluggish.

    Damn.

They are an absolute blast if you even remotely like sci-fi and action RPGs. The world-building is excellent and you'll meet different alien races, explore planets and play through a terrific story where you constantly get to make choices that change the story and carry over each game.

The cast is great and you'll grow attached to your team, there's also romancing if you're into that.

The RPG elements are pretty good as well, you can customize your character, tune weapons and choose from a vast skill tree as you level up. There are several classes and branches , so you can for example become a soldier, sniper, use telekinesis, buffs, support skills etc to create your favourite play style.
You'll mostly play in a team of 3 characters, so forming the right combo of classes adds tactical depth and variety.

It was one of the most beloved franchises and you'll rarely see anyone dislike that trilogy, it only got flack due to a somewhat rushed ending that later got somewhat fixed with free dlc.

Just note that the gameplay of the first title is a lot slower combat-wise than in its sequels, so if they don't change that in the remaster you shouldn't ditch the entire trilogy as it gets much better in the two sequels.

I never got around to ME3 or Andromeda (mostly due to poor reception), but ME1 and ME2 were really great IMO. As mentioned, the gameplay of ME1 could use some refinement, though it was fine for the time.

But the Mass Effect universe is pretty damn amazing. What they were able to do just in the first game is still something I don't think has been matched by many other games (if any). I'd still like to return to the franchise at some point, as the universe is just that damn good. Hopefully the new game they're working on is better than the previous few entries, and it's more like the first 2.
