I'm not band material. But I'm sure there are plenty of kids that would love to play in the band and get an education at UT.
Sark's fine with it and dont find it racist. New Texas coach Steve Sarkisian on school song with racist roots: 'That's our song, and we're fired up to sing it' (yahoo.com)
Just like players can choose what school to play for donors have the right to spend their money however they want.
Pretty much everything in America that is over 50 years old was based in racists roots, because 50 years ago, America was openly racist. At some point, we need to pick our battles and not focus on stupid stuff like where the tune to The Eyes of Texas came from. Let's stop singing the American Anthem. Let's stop getting stuff delivered by railroad because most of those tracks were originally laid by racist exploiting Chinese Labor. Let's remove George Washington from the dollar bill because he was a slave owner. Let's crap on LBJ because even though he probably did more for civil rights than any modern president, because he said the N word on the regular. Just like sexual orientation, racism and prejudice is not binary.
Yes because the nation's freight railroad system is as important to a functioning society and economy as singing a comedy parody song. Great point. I'll be at the first game with horns down during the Eyes.
And one actually caused people to die and suffer and the other just derogatory and hurt some people's feelings.
It's really not. It illustrates the huge awkward truth that no one wants to talk about that the money behind college football's biggest programs doesn't give a **** about black folks feelings while their entire labor force is unpaid black labor. It's a huge ****ing problem.
So you hope for violence in response to someone expressing an opinion about a song. Seems to be right in line with our current political climate.
The one guy in the article who said if the "blacks" don't like it they can go to another school will be screaming if they do. No black players on the team? Yeah welcome to more years of irrelevance UT.
It's REALLY a problem but as long as young black players keep going there....THE PROBLEM WILL CONTINUE TO BE SWEPT UNDER THE RUG
