i was disappointed w/ covington's perimeter D in the playoffs and would prefer he not play the 3 for us. tucker on the other hand, is simply a stellar and imo irreplaceable defender. wish we could somehow retain him to come off the bench and acquire a starting 4 in the aaron gordon mold. dreams

    Agreed on both counts.

Also disappointed that so many seem eager to trade Westbrook and/or Harden.

Granted, they may just say things like that out of response to rumors from people who say that Tillman will pay the luxury tax...

Covington was already playing a lot of 4 in Minnesota when we got him. He can play the 3, keep in mind he was playing huge minutes, and playing a lot of 4 and 5 for us... he was exhausted... and that was part of it.

Having said that, I think the easiest spots for us to fill in trade and FA are SF and C, so Covington likely stays at the 4.

There are a number of possible SF options in FA and trade.

Gordon is most tradeable asset right now.

Rockets will not improve enough without more talent. Younger is better because Harden-Russ era is going to end sooner rather than later.

That said, EGo should not just be given away.

I want more intelligence on the floor to combat Westbrook’s knuckleheadedness.

I want Tucker, Covington and Al Horford to be Houston Rockets.

Surround those guys with smart, talented youth.

Covington played his best ball as a Rocket by far ....in the playoffs. I hate to say it, but we don't beat OKC without him. His shot was on.

Yeah, maybe he could hit more threes... he’s like a free safety playing on the Dline put there. He’ll yeah, his shots gonna be off

    It has been suggested....

    Horford+ Matisse Thybulle
    for
    Tucker + Gordon

    Would you do that deal?

Easily. We need some young talent and Horford should be a perfect center for us.

Number 1 in steals. Personally I don’t buy those whining about fatigue. Everyone was living out of a duffel bag in the bubble for 3 to 4 weeks straight. Without supposedly female contact; except one D House.....again supposedly.

Most of us would be fatigued with that situation even though we didn’t run the length of the court one single time.

Edited: Covington 2.5 steals per game followed by Kawhi 2.3 steals per game in the playoffs.

Rivers SNT instead of Tucker. Zhaire Smith or Shake Milton instead of Thybulle. That probably evens it out enough. I wouldn’t want Horford without Thybulle because it requires PJ UNLESS Rivers can be SNT

    Russ/Milton or Smith
    Harden / McLemore
    RoCo / Nwaba
    PJ / House / Tate
    Horford / Bruno

    That’s an incredible starting point.

Thybulle makes up for that, he'd be a top 5/10 pick in this draft, and Horford > Gordon, especially for us. Even without a 1st (that Phila would never add in that package) that would be a hell of a deal for us, although losing PJ would really suck for multiple reasons.

I’m no Nook and sorry for replying to a question to another poster like a Dbag

I think a deal like that should only be done if we are sure / after we strike out on FA’s like Baynes/Gasol.

Id probably rather have Gordon/Tucker/Marc or Baynes then Horford/Thybulle/(insert FA)

Horford's coming down the other side of his career. That's a slippery slope.
The contract has been predictably atrocious from day one.
That said...Can he still give us big/quality minutes at a position of extreme need for a couple of years? Probably so. Good system and team for Al
Still, we better be getting more than Thybulle to take on that albatross.

    cont’d post from #354

    Rockets shoot (19/20):
35% from three during time Capela with team
34% from three during time after Capela (regular season/restart)
36% from three during OKC 7 game series (playoffs)
37% from three during Lakers 5 game series (playoffs)......40% in the first 4 games of Lakers series.

Rockets shot better from 3 the more “tired” they got. I wish they were that tired in the regular season every year.

People should not use fatigue and 3-pt shooting as an excuse for getting rid of “Small-Ball”
Rockets missed something like 27 to 29 straight 3’s during Capela era playoffs.....when we were well rested.

    Horford contract:

    2020/21 - 27.5M
    2021/22 - 27M
2022/23 - 26.5M (14.5M guaranted or 19.5M if he makes it to the finals once)

    Gordon contract:

    2020/21 - 17M
    2021/22 - 18M
    2022/23 - 19.5M
2023/24 - 21M (fully guaranted only if he wins the chip and plays at least 500 minutes in the regular season or 750 comined between regular season and playoffs)

So, overall, while Horford gets more money per season and it's unlikely Eric's last season will be guaranted, i'd say those contracts aren't that far in terms of how bad they are, especially considering Horford is a bigger need for us (imo) and also the best player.
