The reality is that these EOs can be flipped in 4-8 years and even the sharpest teeth of the Civil Rights Act can be struck down without a vote. People like feel good votes, but are tired that these issues are never settled. Homophobes and bigots still exist with "settled science". Trump and his news generation of crazies makes that fact inescapable. Meanwhile the core of America is hollowing out. With that desperation, they really do just want a paycheck in the form of tax rebate. Something better than nothing. They might even recognize the government is going bankrupt but the messaging for Social Security over the last 30 years is "you're on your own". If you are making a claim of massive fraud, you need some credible evidence for it. It is a lie to assert to something as fact when (a) you don't know it to be true or (b) you don't have evidence indicating it is very likely true. That’s definitely part of it but the white working class bemoans their jobs being shipped off and benefits cut at work but fights tooth and nail to cut the taxes for those that caused the problem. You support cutting their taxes and for what so you can be laid off after 1 bad quarter? But my 401k benefits from those tax cuts you say? Every 401k plan added up isn’t a drop in the bucket compared to what the 1% owns of the stock market. It’s not anywhere close to being balanced for workers but if the Dems bring up raising corporate taxes or free healthcare/college, or UBI, or anything that might actually bring the scales more aligned the poor and middle class cry socialism while praying for a SS COLA this year so they might be able to fix their air conditioner.
