No theatre in town is like Alamo Drafthouse. I just wish it was closer in. I always liked the River Oaks Theatre and the Angelika because there is so much to do before and after a flick in those neighborhoods.
How is that Alamo? I'm assuming you're referring to the one they built at West Oaks Mall...or the other one at some other mall...The (original?) one in downtown Austin is really cool...the John-Wilkes-Booth-Shooting-Lincoln, quaint old theatre appeal is my favorite part.
I like the Angelika because there are pretty much no kids there....sorry to you considerate younger guys out there, but there are a lot of a-hole pricks talking during movies or forgetting to put their cell phones on vibrate (oh thats so difficult to do, isnt it?) I also dig the Edwards on 59 because they charge for parking, that tends to discourage large groups of preteens, who would rather go to the Edwards in the Marqui.
It is really nice. I like the setting and the between film TV or whatever instead of the constant drone of the Slide show. food is pretty decent. . . . .drink is ok Rocket River I give it a 10 . . . good date place
What makes the Alamo Drafthouse so nice? I hear people mention it from time to time but I never really pay attention. I guess it's because I hardly ever go to the theatre, I just wait for the movie to come out on video or DVD.
Wow. I just did a google search on it and I didn't realize it was a restaurant too. Sounds like a cool place. I might have to check it out in the next couple of weeks.
Those are the ones that attract chatty cliquey teenagers, their annoying cell phones, and nonstop chatter. Best place to see a movie is my living room. ALONE.
They have such places in Mexico, called "V.I.P." Reeeally damned nice. Obviously for the more well-to-do of the populace, costing about $8 for a movie ticket. Reclining chairs, wait staff, the works.
It seems every time I go there, the place is infested with annoying little teenagers. But then, I don't go too often because I don't like paying for parking.
Though they don't have them in Houston, you can order beer at the Studio Movie Grills in Plano and Addison. We're getting our second Angelika theater up in the Metroplex soon, too (it's under construction in Plano), and there's still the Magnolia and the Inwood.... but they all only play arthouse movies. Not a mainstream title among 'em. I don't have a problem with the Cinemarks, though. But my favorites were always the United Aritsts theaters, but they're too far away from where I live now (and I haven't really frequented them since the Regal buyout). So, in the end, I don't know any place in Houston, but I felt like posting anyway.
They need to build one of these Alamo drafthouse places in mid town. It would be a huge hit!!! If not there, accross the street from Reliant is a bigger space (even though it is occupied right now, technicality). I ain't driving out to Hwy 6 and Westheimer. Traffic sucks getting out there. Westpark tollway will be nice if it ever opens.
