Having something thrown at you and choking on something are not things you can control, so I feel like the "he's a joke" sentiment is only coming from the left. Heck, I'm on the left, but I'm saying Trump has drastically shifted what I consider to be a joke, and GW no longer meets my criteria. I'm thrilled that it seems like we'll be getting back to sanity.
"After Ford left the White House in 1977, he privately justified his pardon of Nixon by carrying in his wallet a portion of the text of Burdick v. United States, a 1915 U.S. Supreme Court decision that suggested that a pardon carries an imputation of guilt and that its acceptance carries a confession of guilt."
Credit where credit is due ... that was a pretty good duck move by W ... not sure that Trump could execute that.
He is a different type, guy wasn't really interested in politics, he spent more time on the golf course than in the office. You might not have seen him as a joke but given who his dad was, dude was hugely incompetent for the job. Many felt that way even before the election. Trump is a lunatic but he did something with the economy. I can't remember what Walker was good at, I am just sorry. GOP always seemed to find those gems.
Agreed on all points. Just saying I don't know that he's viewed as a joke by the country at large, I think that's restricted to the left. Whereas I think once it's been 5 years to give people perspective, most Republicans will come around to the idea that Trump was a very bad moment for their party.
Media attention is like oxygen to Trump. As soon as the MSM stops reporting all of Trump win-the-news-cycle attempts, Trump will grow bored and head off to his next misadventure.
Both of them are evidence of the failings of GOP voters and the US electorate in general. They were not only terrible in their first terms, these voters felt they deserved a second term.
The only "thing' Trump did for the economy was give a 1.5 trillion dollar tax cut to the rich and corporations, that bought back company stock, propping up the stock market but doing nothing for jobs, wages, and quality of life. That is basically spending deficit money, your taxes so he looks good. Typical.
Good take. GW is a good guy that cares about the country. Didn't love him as a president but he took the job serious and respected the presidency. Obama has come out and said how helpful the GW administration was during the transfer of power, and the relationship the Bushes and Obamas have is pretty indicative of that.
