was that the house with the uneven floor or am i thinking of the haunted house (which was also an early childhood favorite)? i was super young so my memory is probably hazy, but wasnt there a year-round spook house in the early 80's? or was that the wacky shack and maybe they just did it up for halloween every year?
I remember a cool getaway from the heat was a informative show on how film sounds came from. The show was like 30 minutes and thats where I learned the sound of a gun shooting in a moive was nothing more than a 2x4 piece of wood smacking another piece of wood. Got away from the heat and came away amazed as hell.
Wacky Shack was one of those uneven illusional floor places that really was cool as a kid. It was there in 83, but I moved and it was gone when I came back in 88.
Loved the wacky shack. My best Astroworld story: Around 1985, my high-school buddy and I went there just after it had rained and there was NOBODY there. We rode Greezed Lighnin' eleven consecutive times. My buddy couldn't handle it any more. After the 11th time, we exited the ride and he puked his guts out. good times. I remember going back there years later and the crowds it attracted were really really scary. Just wasn't safe at all. I was sad for what had happened to it. That was my last time there.
Favorites - Greazed Lightning, Ultra twister, Excalibur, Bamboo Shoot Least - Skyscreamer RIP Astroworld!
Why not Skyscreamer? I loved it. We'd grab a piece of bark on the way in and place it on our leg and when it dropped you the bark would float right around eye-level. Cool to see as a teen.
I never went as a Parent, but I was told a lot of careless parents would buy a season pass and consider it a summer day care for their teens...
Very true - that always happened a lot. But the last time I was there, there were gang members all over the place. I couldn't imagine a family with kids being there.
I was terrified of it when the ride first came out. Right before the drop, Skyscreamer would blast out these 2 warnings and it would freak me out. Random bit, I saw Rodney McCray at Astroworld. LOL Good ol times.
For a short while, Astroworld had a ride named Taz's Texas Tornaado. This was the wildest and best coaster I've ever been on. Unfortunately, it broke down a LOT. But it made all other rides seem like kiddie rides (..except, of course, the Cyclone. the scariest part about the Cyclone was the feeling that it was going to fall apart at any moment)
Boardwalk Bullet makes you feel the same way as in it will fall apart. I still liked it though. Worth the $2 for a ride.
I loved going to Astroworld in the early 90s. My girlfriend (now wife) and I had season passes one year and had a blast. Also, for what it's worth, the best amusement park deal on earth has to be Knott's Berry Farm. The rides are awesome. The park is large. Socal is a fun place to be amused.
ok, now i need to know b/c its bugging me. was there a year-round haunted house in the early-to-mid 80's at astroworld or am i thinking of the wacky shack? i remember a house-like building that was a quick walk-thru. there was a room where the floor was all uneven perhpas there was some funhouse mirror on the wall too? and i remember some vampires or monsters in there...or maybe that was just for halloween? or am im just trippin.
i think it was halloween time. astroworld went hard for halloween. some people were going all the time for fright night. astroworld really was a place for 5-25 year olds for a good couple of decades.
that is possible. i was well under 10 when that house was there so i might have thought it was a haunted house year-round when my parents probably just took me for halloween every year. my absolute earliest memory of astroworld is the boot slide though.
nice yeah you are making me remember they had some pretty good slides kids area. i had forgotten about that. they really did a good job of evolving. we need someone like bezos or musk to rebuild it exact replica. its true though it got pretty shady
