A few friends and I were wanting to hit the links this weekend. I'm sure my roommate knows some places, but he ain't around right now. Doesn't matter the skill level, but I was hoping to keep the green fee under $40.
I dont know if you he will be able to hit Memorial for $40 on a weekend, unless they are having a special. But he can play one of Bear Creeks courses........Good Luck and good hitting RM95!
I will be playing at Green Meadows in Katy Sunday Morning you can play for 35 bucks which includes a cart Saturday and Sunday Afternoon it's 26 bucks which includes a cart. They've got 2 courses, East and West. East has a lot of trees and water. The West which i prefer is narrower but larger. More Par 4's and 5's. The west course is very nice and is worth the price.
Bluebonnet Country Club - Best bang for your buck http://www.golfersweb.com/golfhous/bluebonn.htm RM95, When we were at live, I mentioned this course to your friend. Its near Plantersville (where the Renassaince Festibal is). Course is beautiful. Lots of trees and lots of water. Very challenging and they usually let you play a second 18 for free. Its a pretty drive out there too. From downtown HOuston, its about an hour and half drive.
I remember Brock Park being pretty cheap. Of course it's a hackers paradise, but there are some nice holes. http://www.golfersweb.com/golfhous/brockpar.htm
We played Green Meadows and Bear Creek in the last two weeks. We may do Kingwood Cove. Anyone ever play there?
15 years ago. Wasn't much then but for $40 your restricted to the low end anyway. Check with GolfQ.com (requires registration) for specials on local golf courses. However, the weeks following The Masters are the prime golf weeks in Houston so most courses will get their rack rate. Red Wolf Run In Huffman was remodeled in the last two years but doesn't charge too much. The Creek course at Cypresswood by IAH is pretty good for cheap. Sugar Hill on Bisonnet outside Beltway 8 'saright.
My roomie said that at Kingwood Cove they have all you can eat and drink in the clubhouse as well. I think that may be the place. Starting at one this weekend, you can play for $29. We can get at least 27 in before we need to head back for the game!
Kingwood Cove is run by the same people that run the Kingwood Country Clubs now so it could be they have access to the know how and equipment to keep it in good shape. Let me know. Way back, when I used to play there some (1988) they didn't even have an irrigation system.
I play at Kingwood Cove pretty often, for the price you can't beat it, however sometimes its not in the best condition. I'm pretty sure they don't have the all you can deal anymore since the clubhouse burned down. But maybe its been rebuilt since I last played there, about three weeks ago.
Kingwood Cove is probably your best, fastest, cheapest answer. Use it as your default if you can't find something else. Bear creek is only good if you have a coupon or discount. If not, it's over priced. They have three 18-hole courses there: President's Course: Cream Puff. Easiest course in the city. Fun for those who want a course that won't beat 'em up. Challenger's Course: A shorter, moderately challenging course which will test your short game and your ability to overcome mental obstacles. Master's Course: A good course. Most difficult course at Bear Creek. But, again, I wouldn't recommend Bear Creek at all if you have no coupon or discount. You may be able to get coupons for Bear Creek or Southwyck at http://www.savesomegreen.com. I hear Southwyck is very good and challenging. Black Horse has two courses, both of which are difficult and excellent. But I doubt you'll be able to play there for $40. Bluebonnet is nice, but is way out of town. Of the Houston municipals, I recommend Hermann Park. It's a challenging, fun, good layout and you can probably play and ride for around $40. Memorial is a runner up. I don't think I'd recommend any of the other muni's (including Brock Park). Their web site is http://www.houstonmunicipalgolf.org. Did you know that there are over 150 golf clubs in the Houston area? I'm building a Houston golf web site which is still under construction. Check it out at HoustonGolfCourses.net and tell me what you think! -- droxford
Is been a few years since i have played there but they used to have a really good twilight rate for the "tradition" course. It was like $30-40 with a cart for one of the best public courses in Houston. However i dont know if they still offer it or if its early enough to get 18 in before dark.
My suggestion is that you wash each and every last little dimple on your balls. You want to be at your best when golfing.
[Beavis and Butthead just found two muddy golf balls] Butt-head: Beavis, your balls are filthy. Go to the ball-washer.
Drive up to Dallas and we'll hit one of the city courses. $27 w/cart after 1:00pm. I'm going with or without ya.
