Since Rudy is like Godfather of the most current Rockets player, I was thinking can management arrange a breif Rudy visit tommorrow before/after pratice. There could be some serious morale boost there.

    What's wrong with you fools?

There is nothing wrong with this post and I think it is a damn good idea.

I'm not so sure that would be good. A lot of the players really liked Rudy, and some probably wish he was still the coach. I'm not sure it's fair to Jeff to bring in a Houston legend plus it might distract the team. Earlier in the year maybe, but I'm not so sure about distracting them right now.

I totally agree. People have gotten way too judgmental about threads. I’m sick of seeing these...."what the point of this thread" comments after every new thread. It's almost as if people are just waiting around for new ones to pop up, so they can post the all too familiar..."what's the point..." crap. If the thread is that bad, then Clutch will lock it. Your comments only take up even more precious space than the bad thread does to begin with.

    Good idea in spirit.

    Bad idea in execution.

Why would a meeting have to be arranged? Rudy still works for the Rockets. I'll also wager that he still talks to these guys from time to time.

Yeah it seems they should probably let the players concentrate for now... maybe let 'em have this sort of meeting after the playoffs, whenever our end comes, to have Rudy congradulate them on all their progress.

I am not saying it will be a formal meeting, I just hope Rudy show up for 5-10 minutes to say hello to all the players to congradulate Jeff and players make the playoff. I am sure he propaly has talked to then through phone several times, but it would be such a surprise to the players that I think it would definetely give them extra motivation.

Let Rudy give them some INSPIRATION . . HEART OF A CHAMPION SPEECH!!!

I mean .. . . it's not like they gonna get anything like that from JVG

I agree. They need Dream, Rudy, or Calvin to show up and give them a little inspiration, seeing old players/coaches would be a good spark. Just don't let JVG see it, he'll probably think they did it wrong.

Rudy has said many times, he doesn't like to give speeches and if he had to, then he had the wrong group of guys.

I agree that would be nice but that's also why its a bad idea.

This is JVG's team and as a disciplinarian with some personal issues with some of the players this wouldn't just distract them and undermine JVG's authority when they need to focus on team unity following the JVG's game plan.

Good luck on that. We're more likely to get John Starks and Anthony Mason talking about following JVG into battle against the Heat.

Related note. I've never liked that JVG has made Ewing Yao's tutor when for

    1. Yao's idol is Hakeem.

    2. This is the freakin Houston Rockets which have one Championship banner due to Hakeem out playing Ewing.

Dream should be the guy tutoring Yao. Anyway Yao's versatility is closer to Dream than Ewing.

He didn't say he didn't give speeches, just that he didn't think he had to motivate. He reportedly gave a very emotional speech prior to the Olympics to the squad. Garnett said he was ready to swim to the Olympics for him, or something.

I'm sure Van Gund's Ego won't get in the way of having the best coach in Houston talking to his players. JVG would love to have rudy over.

also, if you happened to see the special halftime feature on the 94 Finals team, they showed Rudy in the locker room giving a little morale booster-style speech before one of the games.

that said....I dont doubt that RT has had contact withthe team at various times....and will probably not want to make a formal speech at a meeting of players..he wouldnt want to presume on VG's territory.

    Doesnt seem like his style.

Its truely not a bad idea at all. Rudy doesnt have to go the Rockets practice and give them a speech, but he could call certain players to motivate them. This is still Rudy's team on the court......at least this season.......

the Chronicle article from a while back said that Rudy has basically removed himself from the team and hasn't been to a single game this year b/c it would be too emotional for him. shame on you Les Alexander for getting rid of one of the best things this team ever had (got to give props to Hakeem as the best).
