Carl Quintanilla @carlquintanilla · 37m The S&P 500 is now below the level it was at on July 31 .. There has only been one incumbent president [Eisenhower, in 1956] re-elected when stocks were lower between July 31 and election day, in data going back to WWII.
I am sure it is all the liberals selling their portfolios in order to make the market go down in order to make Trump look bad.
I think Mitch and other Republicans figured out that it would not. They even started jumping off the Trump bandwagon a couple of weeks ago trying to create some separation between them and Trump in the hopes of not losing their voters. The Trump administration had been aggressively negotiating with Pelosi up till last week but Mitch put out the word that Senate would not play ball so it didn't matter what Trump/Pelosi agreed to. If I had to guess, Senate Republicans did not believe that agreeing to a huge stimulus package, as the one that Pelosi and Democrats wanted, would look good to their constituents. Worst scenario, they are losing voters and may lose the edge in the majority, at best, they lose a couple of seats, but still retain the majority (or at least a tie if Biden wins). My theory on pushing the Barrett nomination, is that McConnell wanted a conservative SCOTUS (and lower fed courts) to keep checks on democrats in case they (democrats) win the executive and also control both chambers of Congress.
Bingo, just push everything you want through and screw the GOP...they’ve made it clear they don’t care and will do it their way if they gain control back. The time for compromise is over with these folks...
With game theory, you have to go eye for an eye before you start forgiving. If the other side doesn't feel the same amount of pain inflicted, they'll treat the opposition as suckers. It's only when losses are felt that people get serious at reconciliation
Funny, with as many times trump confuses the stock market with the economy and then tries to brag about it...
12 million Americans set to lose unemployment benefits the day after Christmas https://www.cbsnews.com/news/unemployment-benefits-12-million-lose-after-christmas/ Well the stock market is at an all time high.
the mcconnell-led republican senate can't get a COVID-19 bill through to help the American people, but they can sure get judges approved...
The electorate rejected SOCIALISM!!! by voting in a split government. Barring a Jesus-like miracle in Georgia, we can only bank on McConnell turning into a dealmaker to get **** done in the next 4 years. One theory from a NYT writer is that Trump got more credit for the Cares Act than Democrats, led by mean-bich no-sig-on-check P, who tried bargaining for more worker protections. The only answer that I can think of to get out of our dual shitstorms of fiscal solvency and closing income disparities...moar brainwashing!
I'm going to samuel L jackson snakes on a plane on these billionaires who think we have too much inequality pretty soon. THey didn't make the system but it's all ****ing talk after they've built dynastic wealth. Like if they banded together and basically bought the Senate and used it to pass some confiscatory wealth tax above a certain level, OK, but I've yet to see that happen
