Almost 59 million Americans have already voted...and *now* a USSC justice will be voted upon by the senate...

I would honestly be happier if the GOP led Senate had this same eagerness to get out the next COVID package as it does trying to push a Supreme Court justice days before an election is over that would decide who gets to pick justices. They have a lame duck session to ram through Amy and then Biden should increase the court to match the number of federal courts.

Great point. But that would require republicans to care more about the health and well-being of the American people more than maintaining their control over the government.

Funny how suddenly politics plays a role in whether a "qualified" candidate for the supreme court should get consideration...

Thune Statement on Obama Nominee to Supreme Court
“The American people deserve to have their voices heard on the nomination of the next Supreme Court justice, who could fundamentally alter the direction of the Supreme Court for a generation.”
    March 16, 2016
    WASHINGTON —
U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) issued the following statement after President Obama nominated Merrick Garland to the U.S. Supreme Court:

“For the last seven years, President Obama has attempted to circumvent Congress and the will of the American people with unconstitutional, overreaching regulations. The Senate Republican majority was elected to be a check and balance to President Obama.

“The American people deserve to have their voices heard on the nomination of the next Supreme Court justice, who could fundamentally alter the direction of the Supreme Court for a generation. Since the next presidential election is already underway, the next president should make this lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court.”

Very sad about Ruth, but happy we are replacing her with a Great and well qualified SCJ nominee ! This is a constitutional obligation by the President for a full 4 years. It use to be that the senate would work together to acknowledge a qualified replacement that will simply base decisions derived from the constitution. I hope for a day when the nation get get politically closer together somehow and simply compromise on positions. People think compromising is a sign of weakness when in reality it’s how business happens and the people’s business is the government

That is all true. If only Mitch McConnell would have allowed hearings and a vote on Merrick Garland.

Shocked... instead of the chief justice, the extreme right wing justice will swear her in...

She wouldn't be allowed to stand in front of the Constitution under her interpretation of the law.
