Just wondering what you thought of his interview with Webber's dad. I thought he went a little over the top... But Webber's dad was cool. He didn't give in. Gray's 'scoop' on Webber seemed strangely odd. I just don't like this guy much. I'm ok with him asking a hard question, but just drop it when you don't get an answer. I get embarassed for him when he starts to badger.

Can you give those of us that don't have a clue as to what you're talking about some more details? I didn't watch the interview.

Jim Gray was simply being very insistent. Polite, but very insistent. Didn't know when to go away. Obviously Webber's dad likes the Maloofs a lot and the city and will recommend to Chris to stay there. In a separate interview, Chris alluded to his parents and said something to the effect of "it's my decision and they don't have to live here," i.e., you may like this place for me but I don't see you buying a farm out here, Mom and Dad.

This is the only wrench in the system: how much of an effect will Chris's parents have on his decision? He won't stay, but will he insist (because of his Maloof-loving parents) that the team receive compensation? Yes, he's a grown man, but you know parents, they're a blessing and a curse....

Basically he asked his dad, over and over,

    1) What would he recommend to Webber? answer. Sacramento because of the people and owners.
    2) What has Webber said to you? He used the same answer he gave in number one. Which was dodging the question.
    3) What did Tim Duncan and Shaq say to Webber? Ne had no real answer for this.
    4) So what will you tell Webber after the game today? He said after today I'll sit him down and tell him what I think. But he's his own man and will make his own decision.

What was stange about the last answer, was that it seemed like they both anticipated the loss.

    On his scoop:
I forget what Jim Gray said exactly, but he said without hesitation that Webber said he was gone. Going on to say that Webber would never admit it, but that Webber definately said it. Jim Gray was very convinced. However, the strange part was that it came right after they reviewed the article in the Sacramento paper. It was just odd. Almost as if Gray was making it up as he went.

Maybe somebody has this transcribed somewhere....

Jim Gray used to be excellent but now he seems boorish. Remember how he put Pete Rose on the spot a couple of years ago and tried to get him to ADMIT on national TV that he had bet on baseball? This was the first occasion that Pete had been allowed to appear in public associated with MLB and Gray tried to parlay it into a monumental scoop for himself.

I don't remember Gray ever being "excellent"

He always seems so uncomfortable doing interviews. Maybe he would be better behind the camera instead of in front of it.
