It's a Russian movie, not Hollywood. I'm guessing the effects houses weren't Hollywood and relative to current Hollywood standards the budget is paltry. Obviously, its made for the Chinese market. And apparently Annie and Jackie have small roles, so they probably only did it for a relatively huge payday. Its also a sequel to an older Russian film, the English title seems to want to hide that: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viy_(2014_film) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viy_2:_Journey_to_China
Legendary has Chinese financial backing. Arnold and Jacky team up is still a dream-team up though. Jet Li retired from wire-fu (supposedly, although he did some in Mulan), Jacky still at it, at his age. "Arnold, this man became famous for weight lifting, became a movie action star, married a Kennedy, and then became a governor of a state he can't even pronounce. How many lifetimes does one need to accomplish all that" - Bill Burr. Movie should do well internationally.
Yes know what ya mean. Nowadays effects are so good that when it's not up to par, audience easily notice. I wonder if folks actually try creating their own cgi images or animation. Dabbled with 3d animation softwares back in the day that stuff ain't easy.
I have zero interest in these weird China-market-oriented movies. I don't even know why they bother with English. In fact, I would be curious to watch a Chinese movie with Arnold busting out some terrible Mandarin.
Ever notice how there's lots of stone in all of these Chinese movies that have American actors in them? Walls, castles, mountains. It's everywhere, man, like they're giving it away.
Don't know about that, all I do know is that Nicholas Cage is a National Treasure. I love everything about all of his lines in that trailer: from “he’s crazy… like me” to "this is alien politics" to this perfect bit of plot summary: “The comet you see in the sky right now passes over the earth every six years and causes a portal. And when it’s open, we get a visitor from a distant galaxy. The poet warrior in the sci-fi sense. The space man.”
I saw that trailer on a martial arts board and I'm very disappointed that for a movie named "JiuJitsu' not a single guard was pulled...
Not sure how good you are with swords, but you are one of the "jiu juitsu masters" who has to fight the Space Man.
