as somebody else said, it would all be fine if Sura were a mildly r****ded high school kid getting his first game action at the end of a long season. there'd even be a dramatic Sportscenter clip, complete with maudlin music and player/coach testimonials.

    just jokes.

Here is my problem with the NBA's ruling:

If a field goal attempt is defined as a plyer's attempt to shoot the basket into the ball for a field goal and they say Sura's attempt doesn't count because he intentionally missed, does that mean the next time someone intentionally misses a free throw for whatever reason that isn't a free throw attempt? Does it mean whoever rebounds the ball shouldn't get credited with a rebound? Does it mean the player should have to shoot another free throw until he actually tries to make it?

That's what I feel. I' am sure field goal attempts have been missed before to gain some kind of advantage and it counted in the record books.

    Interesting take.

There are a lot of instances where teams intentionally miss a free throw.

I think Sura's record should count.

Just make it to where you have to be shooting at YOUR basket.

According to the letter of the law, the rebound shouldn't count. I'm glad the NBA took away the rebound, but I don't think they have to.

That said, how great a story would'it have been if the Hawk bench and teammates were begging Sura to get the 10th rebound, and he takes the in-bounds pass and spikes it on the ground. Game over. Nine rebounds.

The guy would have been a hero. Instead ...

Sometimes you have to be reminded that the game is bigger than anything. For that, I thank Bobby Sura.

his shot consisted of him standing undre the hoop and tossing it into the bottom of the rim and catching it as time expired.

Glad they over ruled and disallowed it.

    It was Atlanta.
Most people forgot they even had a team until Sura did this.

I think Shaq should take advantage of it..

Shaq: Oh I intentionally missed that FT. It doesn't count. Let me try again...

Shaq: Yes that was intentional too. One more time please..
