Ford is the best Republican President........... the correct answer would have been Richard Nixon had he not been such a crook.

Foreign Policy wise I don't think it's close. It's father Bush.

His ability to create a coalition to remove Saddam from Kuwait and start putting frameworks together after the fall of the USSR are testament to his success.

His muted response to the Berlin Wall getting torn during his presidency, hurt him in the polls but was the reason there was no backlash from hardliners in USSR.

Also he signed START a framework for arms reduction with Russia.

Obviously I don't support him on everything, Esp Some domestic policies. But I think he did a lot to try project stability and cooperation for a more stable world.

I will also say that he pushed free trade agreements that led to short term pain for the USA but in the long run have been huge success.

No question its HW Bush. Everyone will talk about how Bush was willing to break his promise around taxes but the bigger achievement was the ADA.

The Americans with Disabilities Act doesn't pass without his administration making it a priority. We forget but both the Chamber of Commerce and religious organizations opposed the ADA. And in spite of that, the Bush administration strongly supported the bill along with Bob Dole garnering some Republican support in the Senate.

To me the ADA is still the greatest legislative achievement over the last 30 years. Its the most comprehensive piece of civil rights legislation that has been passed since the Civil Rights Act. And it was accomplished with a Republican president who basically told business and religious groups to go pound sand. The US has fallen pretty far in terms of leadership but American laws around disability access is still the best in the world.

Also separately, we forget that George HW Bush made it a point to condemn the NRA at a time when the NRA was rapidly coalescing support in the Republican party.

    ...just think...

'ol "Tricky Dick" might have been remembered differently if he'd just worded his whole Watergate break-in scandal a little differently.

    ...instead of saying:

..."...People have got to know whether or not their President is a crook..."...

    ...maybe he should have said:

"...People don't care whether or not their President is a crook..."...

...he would have seemed like Nostradamus or somebody today...!:D;)
