on nba.com they have a poll of most improved players....and to add fuel to the fire and the reason for the thread Amare was a candidate for the award....god i hate him also over the past week there have been some mock award lists and Mo taylor whom i think has done a great job this year is rarely even mentioned for 6th man of the year..just wanted to give him his props
what is sickening is that those ballot stuffing homers in S.A. have made Genobli the leader ... anyone who has been paying attention would give this to Boozer (with a nod to Randolf) maybe all the high IQ bball fans are spliting the vote and leaving Spurs Fan to run amuk with the voting GO ROCKETS !
I think it's got to be Boozer over Randolph. Randolph showed he had skills during the playoffs last year. If Amare's on there, Yao has to be on there.
I would give it to Earl Boykins. Or maybe they should have a "Best little guy to score on the Rockets" award?
Lots of good candidates for MIP. I saw quite a few of em who stepped up their games. I dont see how Zack Randolph shouldnt win though, he was nothing last year to 20 and 10 this year.
I'll give it to Posey. He is a huge reason why the Grizz have won 50 games. He was never known as an offensive threat until now when has had games of 38pts,35pts, and 40pts. His shot improved dramatically and his defense and hustle are second to none.
You really feel Posey made a more dramatic leap than Zack Randolph? I feel Posey had a great year too, but Zack went from 8ppg/4rpg to 20 and 10. Numbers wise, he owns a big edge over Posey. Posey has been a key factor in the Grizz run to the playoffs though, so he should points for that. Hard to say though, my choice would still be Zack though 8/4 to 20/10 is still 8/4 to 20/10
Zach Randolph does NOT deserve this award. Last season he averaged 8.4 ppg, 4.4rpg and 0.2bpg in 16.9 minutes per game. This season he is averaging 37.8 minutes per game, or about 2.25 times more minutes. If you calculate this out over last season's averages, he should be averaging 18.8ppg, 9.8 rpg, and 0.4bpg. Instead, he is averaging 20.1ppg, 10.4rpg and 0.8 bpg. He's RIGHT ON TRACK people! An increase in minutes doesn't mean he's improved.
Well I could also say that the reason he got the minutes is because he improved so much. Almost every candidate for MIP sees an increase in minutes from the previous year, how do you think they get the numbers?
Hence what I'm saying is that any player who gets the award based upon an increase in minutes merely demonstrates a fundamental flaw in the award's definition. An improved player is someone who has done more in the SAME amount of playing time.
And how has he improved so much if he's on the same pace as last year? How does that warrant extra minutes? This is the precise reason I hate this award. It's never properly given out.
I see where you're going with this, but my initial feeling is still that the more a player improves, logically the more minutes he'll see, he shouldnt get penalized for that. Maybe he didnt get minutes the season before because he sucked. I guess its one of those things that people will go back and forth on. Lets put aside the minutes argument though. Who would be your MIP if we disregard the minutes thing?
It's a chicken & egg thing. Of course, you have to be good when the opportunity presents itself. This just goes to show you that majority NBA players are very talented, they can become a star when give opportunity. Not just minutes, but the right situation as well. Just look at J. O'neal, Ranldoph, Posey, Murray...
