This mindset of saving players for games that wouldn't need to be played had the more qualified pitchers been put in today is exactly the "Dusty reasoning" that deserves criticism.
Also, those vouching for Scrubb haven't been watching much baseball this year I presume... he's just as much of a wild card as anybody. Had decent stuff today, but less pressure overall.
Not so sure. Wouldn't be surprised if he was brought in for 1 inning tomorrow if the A's had a lead in the 9th.
I'm not jumping off a cliff yet. Yea that hurt today but to be where we are with the arms we have and lack of arms is actually quite amazing. I think we can still pull this off but man if ZG can't go the rest of the way it'll be very hard no matter what the offense does.
You get Parades back. At the end of the day, we asked our bullpen to just hold a 3 run lead..they should have been able to do that. Zack being hurt threw a wrench into everything. If Zack wasn't hurt, Javier would have been in there. Now you hope Javier can go 5-6, Pressly one inning, and Parades/name another for the other 2. That's in a perfect scenario. If Urquidy had a decent outing, we win. If James has at least a decent outing, we win. One decision didn't ruin this game. Our guys just didn't do their jobs.
The Astros gave this one away. But it's ok. Oakland's bullpen is taxed, and Hendricks may not be available for them tomorrow. I like our chances to close them out in Game 4. Especially if Fiers is their Game 4 starter. I do not want to see Josh James on the mound anymore.
LOL, ah yes, the PED cheater, I wonder if they'll mention that tomorrow? Did Fiers rat Montas out also??
You are stating that as if you 100 percent know with out a doubt Javier goes in there and shuts them down for 3 innings to win this game.
We may have differing of opinions on the Javier handling. I personally agree with holding him out for tomorrow if Zack can't go, if you have different one that's fine! That's what message boards are for! However...the only thing that frustrates me, is it seems the players aren't getting enough blame over Dusty. Urquidy had a bad outing, James had a bad outing. If one of those have a good outing we win.
You're hoping Javier can go 5-6... but you're not on board with just asking him to go 2-3 today against a team that was already pressing? And again, he just accomplished this exact scenario last week against the Twins. James did have his decent ONE INNING outing... and that wasn't completely clean.
Hendricks pitched an inning the day after throwing 49 pitches in the wild card, so if they have a small lead in the 9th I'm sure he'll pitch.
That was my preferred plan prior to the game. That was my desire after James somehow got through that inning unscathed. That was my desire after the first hit in the 7th... and the second hit in the 7th. A bit more of a gamble if it was a one or two run game. But a 3 run game? I'm trusting Javier more than a guy who hadn't pitched in a month and just got through the previous inning somewhat shakily.
yes but some are questioning the utter stupidity of putting james in there for a 2nd inning and then sticking with him after giving up 2 consecutive baserunners to start the inning. He’s been trash all year and has proven himself to be the absolute last guy out of the pen. Should not have been pitching that 7th and shoulda been pulled before giving up the tying 3 run homer that actually was the game winner. We were done after that.
