In 2017 the Stros were the feel good story. A plucky team with a can do attitude winning it all to bring back a city that had been flooded. Well those days are gone now and we're hated and called cheaters. It's not a pretty picture but that's where we're at. Correa took a lot of heat for his comments after the Wild Card Series but he's right. If this team is going to go far in the playoffs and just maybe get to the WS again it needs to embrace that attitude. I think they did yesterday and we saw that swagger back in not just Correa but in Springer, Bregman and Altuve.. We got to think of this like Pro-Wrestling when the good guy suddenly switches side and becomes the bad guy. We're now the villain the team that people love to boo. This shouldn't come as a surprise though as any love the national media or many fans outside of Houston had for us was always ephemeral. The Astros even when we won the WS and before all of the stuff about cameras and banging cans came out were never a big national draw. We were a cutesy team with loud uniforms. More than that because we beat perennial powers and major sellers Red Sox, Yankees and Dodgers, we weren't popular with MLB elites or on the coast. That's why it was so easy to make us the villians even though the Red Sox were cheating too, the Yankees had evidence suppressed of them cheating and there is plenty of evidence the Dodgers and other teams were too. To quote Shakespeare from "Richard III", "And therefore, since I cannot prove a lover, To entertain these fair well-spoken days, I am determined to prove a villain," That's us now and I want more villiany of us ruining the MLB's nice post season storylines.
I figure a 30 for 30 is the Astros future but could you imagine a broadway play about Astros from being beloved to hated?
I'm listening to the MN Sports Talk and they're talking about how the Stros were the team that everyone hates but is now winning because their aren't fans in the stands. Also that it would be epic if the Stros go to the WS against the Dodgers.
It's similar to the Warriors before KD joined them. Curry was a likeable dude then somewhere along the way lost that image. Feels kinda cool to root for the "bad guys" here not gonna lie.
Not so sure the general public was rooting hard for the Astros last year, with Osuna and the team generally being dominant. Same in 2018 as they turned Cole into a super-pitcher and the rich got richer.
Most people were rooting for the Nats last WS as they were the feel good story but I don’t think we were hated last year. Except by Yankees fans
I’d put the loudest damn metal trash can in the dugout and every time they hit a dinger I’d give it a nice ‘BANG!’
I never do this, but was told to, read the comment section: https://www.athleticsnation.com/202...game-2-oakland-as-houston-astros-score-result
That's the second time today I've read someone state as fact that the Astros cheated in the 2017 WS (the other was a Yahoo Sports article from 10/4). Was there any real evidence for this? I forget, did Manfred's report state we cheated in the WS?
