Just a point order. They are properly known as Lobstah Rolls. Its like calling a pecan pie a PEE-can pie. Nobody wants that.
Lobster Rolls are fire. So is Lobster Bisque (soup). It's pricey; so on special occasions I'd treat myself.
You’ll heard of Cousin’s Lobster truck? You’ll have one in Houston. https://www.cousinsmainelobster.com/truck/houston-tx/
I know its just a chain (including at Logan), but the crab cakes at Legal Seafood are really good. Especially with a cup of chowdah...
O hai 10 year old thread. Lobster rolls have a huge variance in quality.... don't just order them from anywhere.
We've had a reservation there for close to a year in anticipation of our November trip. Hopefully, we will get to go.
Best crab sammich I ever had was at Faidley's in Baltimore. Zero filler, just jumbo lump, spices and a little binder with light cracker crust. I ate 2 in the 3 days I was there. For the Austinites, Garbo's apparently is the place to go for lobstah rolls.
I had to look back to see what I wrote in this thread its so old. At the time I wrote my original post I didn't know anyone made them without mayo. For the record I'm 100% firmly still against Mayo anywhere near lobster, but I did have an awesome lobster roll in Boston that was well worth the $20 I paid for that awesome buttery lobster on a perfectly toasted bun. Not a drop of mayo in sight.
I''ll take a Crawfish Poor Boy with Jalapeno Remoulade. I have had a few lobster rolls that left me wanting for the cost, thinking maybe its a source thing if I visit the Hamptons they would be better. A good Poor Boy thou.... its a no brainer.
Also if you get lobster bits or shreds instead of large lump chunks, it's most likely langostino that the restaurant snuck in for higher markup. Taste difference IMO is langostino has more of that "taste of the sea" (or nearing that lobster due date) stink whereas something like lobster tails are more sweet and juicy.
I got a lobster quesadilla from them once, wasn't impressed. Probably should have just tried their warm lobster roll.
I had one of the lobster rolls. It didn't have mayo on it. It was decent but I wasn't actually there to get it fresh. A family member had bought me one, brought it home, and refrigerated it. So, it was about 4 hours old. I do recall the meat still seemed fresh/tender...and it was cooked right. A lobster quesadilla does seem like a bit of a gamble to me. I'm sure it is more preferable to find a restaurant that does these well versus seeking out a lobster truck. But, you got to do what you got to do sometimes. If it was convenient, then I would try all almost all of their menu items. But, this thing moves around a lot and you have to plan this out to catch up to one. I first heard about this truck from my brother...who ate at one in Vegas and where it was pretty popular based on what he said. I think they were on TV albeit I forget what show or whatever.
Yeah, it was stopping close to work for me and sounded like it might be for a while right before the pandemic. Was expecting to get more chances, but 2020 realized it was 2020.
where i got mine in boston it was an extra $2 to get it hot w/ butter instead of cold with mayo. that was an easy decision. when i ordered at the counter i asked for a "lobster" roll and the lady gave me a crooked look and said "what was that?" so i said "lobstah" roll and she nodded in approval. i also had lobster ravioli at an italian place when i was in boston. i didnt even know that was a thing, but it was pretty awesome.
