While everyone has been busily drawing up artwork of Chris Webber in his new Houston Rockets jersey, one question has been on my mind: What about Mo Taylor? Mo has been very up front with the Rockets. He likes Houston, he likes playing with the dynamic duo, and he is willing to sign a long term deal to stay. The Rockets, though, have their sites set on a bigger fish. My concern is that the Rockets' lack of interest in Taylor will cost them both players. Taylor was counting on being in Orlando last summer, but the Magic didn't end up with enough money to sign him. He is talking to Orlando again now (they have $4.5 million to offer). He also has interest from Detroit and now NY. The Knicks are starting to look for an alternative to Webber, as their acquisition of Chris hinged on Allan Houston's willingness to do a sign-and-trade. If the Rockets don't lock up Taylor, they may lose him AND not get Webber. If I'm not mistaken, no one is talking to Mo right now. I believe that Free Agents cannot be contacted until July 1st. If this is indeed correct, then your thread is a bit premature wouldn't you say. ------------------
I was basically going to say the same thing, if he is talking to Orlando while still under contract to the Rockets then Orlando is guilty of tampering. Maybe Stern will take away the 22nd pick from them and the Rockets can move up one. The absolute earliest that a contract would expire would be the day after the finals end. ------------------
Mo has always said he doesn't mind the Rockets going after Webber. The Rockets are "puruing ways of signing both." And Rockets officials have constantly said they love Mo. How is he growing impatient? Orlando is getting Antonio Davis...that is pretty much a lock. All I have heard out of NY is Webber, then Davis, then Jerome Williams. Are you suggesting that Orlando is in violation of league rules? Why don't you drop an email to Stern? ------------------ I have just realized that the stakes are myself I have no other ransom money, nothing to break or barter but my life my spirit measured out, in bits, spread over the roulette table, I recoup what I can nothing else to shove under the nose of the maƮtre de jeu nothing to thrust out the window, no white flag this flesh all I have to offer, to make the play with this immediate head, what it comes up with, my move as we slither over this go board, stepping always (we hope) between the lines
I'm happy to have Mo Taylor leave, poor rebouder, defender, and does not show up in the 4th Quarter. We tireless workers in the paint who want to get in and stay in shape. Cato and Mo are poster childs for underworked professional athletes ------------------
I don't think the Rockets have shown Mo a "lack of interest." It's a waiting game until the draft, then we'll see who's interested in who. ------------------ Founding Father of the Refs Suck Club
Both Orlando and Detroit have called the Doleac/Outlaw rumor total fiction. So don't go hitching your boat to that one. And I doubt Detroit has a serious interest in Mo Taylor, they could have gotten involved last year if they wanted him but made only slightly veiled references to needing more toughness. They know he's a marshmellow and don't want him. ------------------
Of course they denied it, they'd don't want to violate any NBA rules against "wink-wink" deals like the Wolves did. ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater
They didn't just deny it they called it an outright lie and a work of fiction. It wasn't the "Golly gee, nah" type denial. It was "the you guys are on crack" denial. ------------------
Not only that, if they did make the deal after denying it, the NBA would be more or less forced to investigate. ------------------
Come on Hobbs, you know that organizations lie. Orlando said that Grant Hill wasn't going to be traded, his name is on the block. Seattle claimed that they weren't shopping Payton, suddenly today their GM said he can be gotten with the right price. Things change, nothing is set in stone, especially when two role players like Outlaw and Doleac are involved. You think that if a team gave Orlando a great offer the Magic would say "Well gee we gave our word we wouldn't trade them, and that's what we're going to do!" As for Detroit not wanting Mo Taylor because he is a "marshmellow", beggars can't be choosers. They're not a good team, you don't turn down a player like Mo Taylor when you suck. ------------------ "I'm not here to protect my reputation, I'm here to make my reputation! Antonio Davis is going to end up in Orlando no doubt. I think Detroit agreed to take some contracts off their hands (Doleac and Outlaw) in that whole 18th pick fiasco. Look at his website. He says some interesting things: But our ultimate loyalty is no different than yours: our loyalty ultimately is to our families and to ourselves. What if another employer offers you things that will give you and your family more piece of mind? Do you refuse because you are loyal to your current employer? Of course not. You make a decision that will make you and your family happy. http://www.antoniodavis.net/main.htm Anyways, the after signing AD, no room for Mo. Also, the Knicks don't have the money to sign him either. Unless Mo wants to go to Detroit or Chicago there's not a whole of options for him if he seeks $7 mill/season. ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater
