Getting a nice amount of heavy rain in the Gallo for the past couple of hours. How long until this thing is supposed to clear Houston?

Is it just some of the streets in Mission Bend that are getting flooded or is water getting into automobiles and houses?

If it takes a path to the Houston area at a speed of 3 MPH, then probably Wednesday evening before things improve substantially.

That’s a shame. They had the data to make this call last night. Superintendents need to be held accountable.

    Accountability. #Xerobull2028

This sucks. While virtual learning and teaching is very tough, these calls should not be that difficult right now.

    Tropical Storm Beta Advisory 21
Valid: 09:00 AM CDT Tuesday September 22, 2020

    Current Location:
    28.9N, 96.8W
Geographic Reference: 15 miles ENE of Victoria, TX
    Movement: North at 3 mph
Max Winds: 40 mph gusting to 50 mph
Current Hurricane Severity Index: 2 out of a possible 50 points (1 size, 1 intensity)
Max Predicted Hurricane Severity Index: 2 out of a possible 50 points (1 size, 1 intensity)
Current Radius of Tropical Storm-Force Winds: 90 miles
Max Predicted Radius of Tropical Storm-Force Winds: 90 miles
    Organizational Trend: Decreasing over land
    Forecast Confidence: Average
    Estimated Central Pressure: 1000 mb

    Key Points
    1. Flooding rains are expected to continue for SE Texas through tomorrow morning.
    2. Flooding will spread into SW Louisiana later today and tonight.
    3. Once the center moves to the east of your location, the threat of flooding should end.

    Our Forecast
Beta is moving very slowly over coastal Texas. This is allowing for rounds of heavy rainfall to affect southeast Texas, including the Houston metro area. An intense rainband is moving through the metro area now. This should clear the area by midday. However, additional heavy rains are likely to develop over southeast Texas tonight. An additional 6 to 8 inches is likely to fall through tomorrow morning in southeast Texas. Areas that receive persistent rainband activity could receive higher amounts than this. Heavy rains could last through the afternoon hours tomorrow for southwest Louisiana. Similar rainfall amounts are likely for southwest Louisiana as are expected for southeast Texas.

Regarding the track of Beta, it should begin moving to the east-northeast later today. Once Beta moves to the east of a location, the threat of flooding rainfall should come to an end. The winds should gradually decrease as Beta moves to the east-northeast. It should weaken to a depression later today and then to a remnant low tomorrow.

    Expected Impacts Offshore
    Northwest Gulf:
Occasional heavy squalls could result in localized gales.

    Expected Impacts Onshore
Coastal Texas and Louisiana: Significant travel delays are likely, especially over SE Texas and SW Louisiana due to widespread street flooding. Some inundation of structures near waterways will likely occur.

Really cool site. You can type in your address and it shows you how much rain has fallen so far.
Sometimes I hate Houston. My wall looks like there is face coming out of it like " frighteners"

Yep, it is the right call but it probably should have been made a few hours earlier. I'd bet there were parents trying to drop off their kids at school this morning who didn't get the memo. Hell, my wife is getting texts from teachers who didn't get the memo...

I think it was during Imelda, that my wife was stuck south of White Oak Bayou and north of Buffalo Bayou that I was able to use this site as well as a traffic site to navigate her on the phone to a safe crossing over White Oak Bayou.

That’s about half a mile from my house.

We didn’t flood in Harvey but it was close.

Edit- went and looked at the neighborhood retention area that is a very small offshoot of Clear Creek. Usually it has about a foot of water in a small meandering stream. It's about 15 feet high now, six or so feet from street level.

Been raining non-stop since yesterday at noon, here, near I-10 and 99 over in Katy.

    Time to evacuate yet?
