Merrick Garland says hello. Moscow Mitch has set the precedent that there are no hard fast rules.

When one party is far more insincere than the other, then they are playing on unequal playing fields. That's how our politics is today. Democrats are far less effective in ramming down legislation and judges than the GOP because of this.

I think you miss the point here.

Do you honestly believe the Dems would be doing any different if the shoe were on the other foot ? I have Zero doubts that they would and I would blame neither side for doing it.

Its comical that you guys are mad about the GOP doing something well within the "Rules" yet you want to change the rules when they don't suit you .... pack the court!

Yes as Democrat held Senates have confirmed GOP nominated justice nominations during an election year.

Again, one party acts far more in bad faith.

This perfect world were "both sides are exactly the same" is a cute naive paradigm held by mostly conservatives who are ashamed of their party chosing a idiot like Trump and project and have strong desires in wishful thinking that the "other side" is just as bad.

You have my leave to absolutely do the same thing.

We will expand the Courts and the Senate and voting access

Next time you get control of Congress and the Presidency, you have my personal leave to do the same thing - provided you're able to get the votes.

yeah , because 5-4 conservative court made the initial ruling and we've had a conservative leaning court ever since .... and it still stands since 1973.

    Same as above.

Conservative court for the last 60-70 years .... and that's the period of time where these people got their equality.

Now a conservative court is going to repeal those things .... Sorry , you've been sold a lie. It was those conservatives who helped push those things thru and the Democrats who fought against it all.

    Again.

That ruling was 4 liberal judges and 1 conservative judge. I'm not sure what you're talking about lies? Obergfell v Hodges, 4 liberal judges, 1 conservative, the other conservative judges were upset about it and GOP today hates Kenneday and calls him a liberal judge any way.

Yes, a 6-3 court is going to repeal those things. They've told you from day 1 they would repeal Roe V Wade.

    https://www.cnbc.com/2016/10/19/tru...ces-to-overturn-roe-v-wade-abortion-case.html

It's not that you're even being lied to, they are telling you they will do these things and you're ignoring it hoping for some better nature when it's really just one swing conservative voting for something the majority that the liberal justices agree on.

    Also, separate issue...

What liberal fought AGAINST LGBT+ rights? Can you name one? That's a new one to me.

Both sides are sick at the government doing nothing. This seems appropriate. Everyone gets their chance at driving the country into the ditch...

I don't want possible landmark decisions that look like a near coin flip (e.g. 5-4).

Whatever you call it, increase the number of Justices. I'm hearing the number 13.

But...they are literally saying they will do it? Trump said he's putting in SCOTUS judges to do it. amy Barret is next and she's a strong religious person that puts her bible before the constitution and laws. She will be a vote against Roe V Wade along with Kavanaugh, Gorsuch.

A 6-3 court will overturn it.

You're also ignoring that LGBT+ rights were not championed by conservatives, to pretend like they were is just dishonest. Just because ONE conservative decided to side on the right side of history it's just not right to act like the rest of them did. They were dragged along kicking and screaming, it got done in spite of them, not because of them.

I'm not here for bets because I hope it doesn't even get to the point of it being a 6-3 court and I hope Collins, Murkowski, Gardner, and Romney block the vote on principal alone and the Dems win the Senate and this doesn't happen.

But you did say you prefer a 5-4 court, so why did you say that? Do you think nothing changes for a 6-3 conservative court?

I cannot stand most of her decisions while on the court but I do admire her strength to fight off one of the most deadly cancers multiple times. She beat overwhelming odds to survive more than than anyone I have ever heard of. That takes a lot more than good doctors it takes a VERY strong person. I greatly admire her strength and constitution.

Wang proposed 15. By law, 5 Republican/conservative and 5 Democrat/liberal. Those 10 judges would by consensus pick 5 more judges. Those additional 5 judges would only serve for a limited time and then be replaced.

By design, the plan that Wang endorsed would take the politics out of USSC.

“be cautious and keep your powder dry.” According to the Washington Post, which obtained a copy of the McConnell letter, he warned, “For those of you who are unsure how to answer, or for those inclined to oppose giving a nominee a vote . . . this is not the time to prematurely lock yourselves into a position you may later regret.”
