the radio guys are funny.. it is slightly amusing that granato zerline and even recently the pendergast guy all think they are big time. i can totally see them at a strip club telling some 19 year old skank that they are 'kind of a big deal'
No, but I called into the Astros postgame show when they were on Channel 51, hosted by Granato. They were giving away a t-shirt if you answered a trivia question. I was like 12 so it was pretty exciting to get through, don't remember much else other than Granato laughing that some kid was geeked out to win a t-shirt.
Granato, yeah, that's him you're describing. Lance seems to understand radio isn't **** and tries to branch into other stuff.
BOB KEMP? Was he the late night 90's ******* from LA that hated everything about Houston, and especially Houston fans that called him? Did I just magically pull this name out of my ass while reading this thread?
I think I called in once to 790 when Jeff Lunhow was on and asked him about the clutch gene and referenced Carlos Correa's runners on base splits or late inning splits something like that . Maybe I've called in once or twice more . Can't remember lol
I think he's still doing a few things (like launching an X broadcast or something, as of last week) but yeah, his star has largely set. I mean, don't shed a tear for him, as he had a long and probably lucrative run. I think when he went full into dumb sound effects and insider jokes about his insider "clone" fans it steadily went down hill. I thought he conducted some good interviews back in the day, at least on the radio show. I was okay with his schtick up to a point.
It feels like they definitely take less callers now. I remember a long time ago there were guys like mike in dairy ashford, howard in memorial, collie, larry from stafford among other "regulars". I guess it was social media before social media.
Agreed. He was fun for while but it got ole Will the Recent retirement of Skip I thought . . man . .Rome had like a 5~10 yr run and now I don't even hear his name anymore (not being on local radio does not help) I haven't heard anything in a good 5 maybe 8 yrs Rocket River
ETA, I wish I could find a couple of Rome's interviews with Rex Hudler. Talk about amazing. I will say that I enjoyed the annual "Smack Off". Sean the Cablanasian was great, can't remember the names of the other regulars
