One thing that stuck out to me last night was as soon as the buzzer went off there was zero celebration from the players and coaches. In fact, I could swear I say JJ take a peak over at the bench to see if JVG was upset over the last play. Personally, I think the last play where they stole the ball from Yao was another foul that should have been called and the shot from Miller to tie should never have even taken place. However, I think it says something when you don't see any happiness at all over making the playoffs. I think everyone is probably worried about getting chewed on by JVG at practice over all their mistakes that they can't celebrate. I don't think they should have gone overboard with champagne and all that, but there should have been some emotion from these guys immediately after the game ended. On the post game wrapups, they were saying that just making the playoffs wasn't good enough, etc. but still, I think their demeanor is probably more a function of JVG riding their tails over every little detail that they wouldn't dare celebrate and give him another excuse to yell at them. Anybody else see any celebrating?
by the news paper article in the chronicle it said stuff about players arm in arms walking with huge smiles, someone jumped onto francis and said great game or something while confetti came down.
I noticed that too, I think it has to do with in part JVG and in another part knowing making the playoffs aint good enough. But I don't think they should jump around like they won a champion****. Thats one thing that sucks about baseball (one of many) they act like they did something when all they do is make the playoffs.
Dude, what are you talking about Agent86? In MLB, only 8 teams out of 30 can make the playoffs. Compare that with 16 out of 29 in the NBA, it is a huge accomplishment! They have every reason to celebrate.
Well making the playoffs in baseball IS a big accomplishment. Just like in footbabll there are way fewer slots open. It's like if only the top 4 teams in the western conferance got into the playoffs in basketball. And wouldn't that be a crime if the likes of milwaukee and new jersey got in and memphis, dallas, and houston didn't.
Why shouldn't you celebrate, making the postseason is a HUGE accomplishment. If only the teams that won a championship celebrated what kind of excitement would that be? As for ripping baseball teams for being happy to make the playoffs, do you realize how hard it is to make the playoffs? Ther eare franchises that have gone 5, 10, 20 years without making the playoffs. And making the playoffs in the NBA still is a major accomplishment. Look how hard it was for the Rockets to make it! Some franchise have gone years without making it. If itwas so easy to make the playoffs in the NBA the Rockets wouldn't have needed 5 years to do so. Getting to the playoffs is a big deal, it means you, officially, have a shot to win a championship.
Not in a league where more than half the teams make the playoffs. Ther eare franchises that have gone 5, 10, 20 years without making the playoffs.
That's pretty sad when you can barely try and get into the postseason. And making the playoffs in the NBA still is a major accomplishment. Look how hard it was for the Rockets to make it! Some franchise have gone years without making it. If itwas so easy to make the playoffs in the NBA the Rockets wouldn't have needed 5 years to do so.
To answer your question, because the organization spent too much money too porly on too many undeserving players (see Taylor, Cato, Francis). Getting to the playoffs is a big deal, it means you, officially, have a shot to win a championship.
Making the playoffs in the NBA and NHL really isn't a big deal.
Looks to me they waited until Saturday night to start celebrating - It's obvious they did not show up ready to play Utah...
I did not say it was not a big accomplishment in baseball cause it is. Im just saying if you watch someone win the world series, then watch someone make the post season, you could not tell one from the other. I mean I under stand the jumping around, but they should leave the cork on the bottle untill the big dance.
