Sam may be a good candidate. If the Rockets org gives him an interview. It's on Sam to impress and bring ideas to the table.
It’s one thing having good ideas, we all have good ideas. It’s another thing executing these ideas in real time. cassell doesn’t have a track record of that
Would love to have Sam I Am back home. That said, Harden has to be 100% on board and ready to buy in with any hiring.
Does he know defence, call time out and usage of people without a center? I dont know whether Houston still have a center next year
Sam Cassell wasn't in the Clippers for decoration. I wonder how Clippers lost. I feel it will be the same with the Rockets. If he can't motivate a better and more cohesive team in Clippers, I doubt he can do it with the Rockets. I'd rather try another as head coach. Maybe as an assistant coach for the Rockets, he can be good but as head coach, nope!
Yea I’m out on him and everyone who has anything to do with this Clippers team. We already are full of guys who just got done underperforming.
I just don't understand what Sam Cassell has done except being a Houston folklore legend that has you guys so geeked up for him. If this was a rebuild project sure....but the stakes are too high. Sam Cassell hasn't proved anything as a coach.
What kind of proof do you need? Experience? He's been an assistant coach for 11 years Former playing experience? I don't think I need to provide info there There's been plenty of coaches in the past 20 years that have excelled without "proving anything" as a coach: Steve Kerr Nick Nurse Erik Spoelstra Brad Stevens at the pro level Quin Snyder I rather go with Cassell than to go with retreads like Lue, JVG, or any other coach with a clear ceiling.
I think Sam will get the attention and respect from Harden and Russ on Day 1 and that's critical. You need a coach that can come in and get on their asses when need be.
Sam paid his dues and have practical experience as a coach on the sidelines. If he's not too picky about salary, Tilman may also be able to afford.
The only problem I see is Morey. Imagine Cassell coming in during the interview and mention the word mid-range shot. He'd be out the door so fast, it's like he was never there. That is why I'm not that happy about Tilman staying out of the coaching hire. We need a guy there who has a love for the old Rockets and be in Morey's ear to say things like: "You know it wouldn't hurt to use the mid-range more, Sam was a master at it and Harden could go back to incorporate it like he did in 2015. And when the threes don't fall, we have as simpler shot available" or "he has a point there Daryl, come on, get on board." or simply "I love him, what's not to love, let's do this Daryl."
