It is a good arguement, but the rules are the rules. Theat is what the NBA set down as guidlines so they are going by what is written.

An idiot is someone who can even make a valid argument.

Seriously?? Are you joking? There are many ways to determine tiebreakers any of which are valid as long as the method is determined in advance in order to be fair. The NBA long ago chose this method. That is the rule, period. It doesn't matter what you think is better. I don't like the three point line so I think we should go back and rescore all games as if it didn't exist.

He doesn't agree. He said it's a good theoretical argument. It isn't reality. Reality is that there is a different tiebreaker and under that tiebreaker the Rockets are in.

Arguing on the Internet is like running in the special olympics, Even if you win - you're still r****ded. Can't remember where I saw this, probably here.

True. The whole point of this thread is not wheather Rox are in or out of the Playoffs. The thread is about the validity of the tiebreaker rules that the NBA come up with which i don't agreed.

You agreed that the 3 tiebreaker rules are valid and fair?? C'mon...let's be realistic here. Let's say that the 3 teams are tied up and so obviously Nuggets will be in since they have 3-1 over Utah and 2-2 against the Rox. Now that leave the Rox and Utah ....and you CAN NOT tell me that Rox is better than Utah record wise and division and conference wise...no way. So that's the point of my argument ...that there is flaw in the rules.

OK, I'll take the position that the drug war is counterproductive, expensive, and unrealistic and you argue the other side. We will have to do it in the D&D, though.

If this is true, then why did you title the thread "I am wondering how come ..." instead of "The 3 team tie breaker rule is BS"

Acknowledge you're a dumbass and move on.

"You might as well total up all the 82 teams they played." Uh, yeah, THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT THEY DO. It's called THE REGULAR SEASON, ever heard of it? Let me explain this to you in terms that even an 8-year-old should understand: you see, they add up all the teams a team beats and put that in one column, then add up all the teams a team loses to and put that in another column, and at the end of THE REGULAR SEASON they rank the teams in order of how many total wins and losses they have--get it?

Your response would probably be: "Haha..you're funny. You don't total up the wins between the 29 teams and determine who is the better team overall...that's rediculous."

If the point of this thread was not to question the Rockets clinching a playoff berth, then why did you not know about the three-team tiebreaker in the first place? Your initial point of the thread was to argue that the Rockets did not clinch a playoff spot, and when you got proved wrong, you tried to save face and form an arguement in an attempt to make yourself look intelligent. Learn how to spellcheck first. And to comment on your weak arguement -- look at it this way. Utah's record -- they proved they are equal to Houston, but worse than Denver [by way of record]. While Denver proved they are even with Houston and better than Utah. Furthermore, Houston proved they are even with both teams [keep in mind this is by virtue of record, which is what is important in this tiebreaker]. So it's easy to allow Denver and Houston in the playoffs by this deduction.
