There are some wierd players out there who seem to fall into either categories, so I was wondering what you guys thought about them.

    1. Michael Redd

Redd made the all-star team and is getting a lot of consideration for most improved player, but I'm really not all that impressed. When I seem him I think Allan Houston with stronger rebounding. He's a good shooter, average defender, nice rebounder for his size, average passer... Nothing all that special about him, at least to me.

    2. Elton Brand

Mr. Double Double, a rock of consistency, and yet another Duke player whose team never wins. The numbers are all there, he has a good understanding of the game (like all Duke players), but I just don't think he's a franchise level player. He doesn't seem to make anyone around him better. Shareef Abdur-Rahim with stronger rebounding and defense.

    3. Jason Richardson

You never really hear anything about J-Rich, probably because he plays in Golden State, but he's having a nice year. We all knew he could dunk and last year he started shooting 3's with some consistency, but he's really opened up his offensive game this season. He's too slow laterally to be an effective man-to-man defender, and he seems to save his energy for offense. Not sure what to make of him.

    4. Mike Bibby

Bibby's a good shooter and playmaker who looks like a great one in Sacramento's offense. He can be unstoppable when he gets into that high post screen and roll, and he makes hard cuts to the basket. His defense still has a lot to be desired, though you wouldn't know it the way he's played against SF3. I like Bibby, but I think that in any other offense he'd just be a role player.

    5. Jamal Mashburn

This one's the toughest to judge, in my opinion. Mash is a very skilled SF with enough skills to play the point, has an effective post-up game, and good shooting range. He comes up big in the clutch and is a capable rebounder. That being said, he's also a pretty horrible defender, and can't stay healthy for 82 games. He can really only play in a low tempo, shot clock milking offense. I'd still rather have him on my team than someone else's, but I think he's a little bit overrated by analysts.

There are others, but these are the first ones to come to mind.

    1. Neither, he is fine where he is at. He has come a long way from here he has come from.

    2. Neither, same as above.

    3. Overrated, dont think he is what he is up to be. Yea, he can dunk, pass, etc.., but thats it. I say he is a poor man's Pippen.

    4. Overrated, he has not lived up to his play of the the 2002 playoffs. He is good now, but he was a star during that playoff run.

    5. Overrated, simply because he is injury prone.

One person who I think is overrated is Brad Miller. I am still not impress with what he has done this year. I thought it was a fluke last year to be on the all star roster. He has just been on good teams. He was average with the Bulls, and is just a role player around good players.

    1) Michael Redd was vastly underrated coming out of OSU. He fell into the 2nd round after taking his team to the Final 4. Since then he's been busting his ass to get into the upper tier of players. He's not a superstar, but he's damn well becoming a dependable player, quite possibly even a star. Management though enough of him to trade away Ray Allen, their franchise player. He's been underrated his whole career (people said all he could do was shoot and he's developed a very competent defense, as well as decent rebounding skills). Him making the All-Star team might warrant a few complaints as to him being overrated, but he is still a good player, meaning I agree with Dave: he's good where he's at, not overrated or underrated.

    2) Elton Brand: overrated on this board. I get the obsession with him, to an extent. But he was a #1 pick, and he hasn't quite lived up to that billing. A solid player, but overrated nonetheless.

    3) JRich can dunk. He doesn't really make his teammates better, and isn't in the upper tier of SGs. That's about it. Overrated IMO.

    4) Bibby: OVERRATED! The definition of overrated. After that one playoff run, he was touted as the best PG in the west. He has not lived up to that billing since then. Love affair with him on Clutch BBS also does not warrant any merit.

    5) No comment.

Overrated: Gilbert Arenas, Kirk Hinrich, RJeff, Melo

Underrated: Donyell Marshall, Lamar Odom, Ray Allen

Bibby is neither. He was overrated after that playoffs. But he got injured the next season and didn't play well. People started to see him as a very good player but not quite a star. That's exactly what he is. I wouldn't mind trading Francis for him plus a little bit more.

Brand is a very good player. Is he a superstar material? Hard to say. He has never played on a team other than losers like Chicago and Clippers. His skills and talent are unmistakable. I wouldn't mind trading Francis for him straight up.
