According to bskball.com, a swap might be possible. Word has it the Rockets and Lakers have openly discussed a cap maneuver that might have the Lakers selecting in the 1st round (and gaining some luxury tax breathing room) and Robert Horry coming to Houston. Would you like to see Horry in a Rockets uniform next year? ------------------ take it one day at a time
Can't he opt out of his contract, then sign here? ------------------ "Chucky who? I thought we were talking about basketball?" Charles Barkley
I think for some reason it's too late for him to opt out of his contract. But why would he anyway? He's making over 5mil! ------------------ Founding Father of the Refs Suck Club
Horry's contract doesn't expire until July 1st. I believe he can POpt anytime before that date. It's to his advantage to wait until after the draft. ------------------ GATER
The starting PF for LA is usually Horace Grant, who makes 7.8M according to most sources. If Grant retires, who would LA most likely start? ------------------
I think Horry is afraid he won't get $5 million in free agency so he's going to keep his current contract. Both the Lakers and Rockets would be fools to do the trade. Horry is a good clutch performer. And he plays a position that the Lakers are thin at. But the Rockets can't sacrifice $5 million in cap space for him. ------------------ RealGM Gafford Art Artisan Cakes
I don't know if LA would want or need Walt, but Walt makes about the same as Horry. I would rather have Horry than Walt. I know our team doesn't feel that way, but I bet the management would. Would you do Walt for Horry? ------------------ It's Clutch's City and we're all just living in it...
Great, the rockets develop some good team chemistry and now we want to bring in the Cancer Man....... great ------------------ "The things I enjoy most, I suck at: 1) Sex: everything's fine until she makes noises." - Achebe Smegs Mock Draft
If Horry does not opt out after July 1st or whenever, are the Lakers free to trade him or do they have to wait till later? I was wondering if that rule about not being allowed to trade a player after the deadline that can opt or will be a FA applies to this situation after Horry makes his decision? ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
Horry is in a tough position. We all know the Horry family does not want to move to LA because of Horry's daughter. I heard on NBC that she is happy in Houston, and is having success with her physical therapist. LA offers Horry money and the opportunity to play for a contender. I believe Horry would give that up if the Rockets want Horry back. I don't know if the Rockets are seriously interested in Horry. I also don't think Horry would leave LA without getting the team compensation (that's where the trade comes in). It's not wise if it hurts our chances at Mr. Webber. ------------------
I would take the bait and give the Fakers 1st round pick #23 and bring the homeboy Horry back where he belong. ------------------ Rudy T. will find and fulfill Rockets destiny.
Horry for #23? Thats not that bad. ------------------ President of the Steve Francis, Jamal Crawford,Larry Hughes, and Charles Woodson fan club.
Horry is a good player in the playoffs. Other than that, he's not really an upgrade over shandon. I'd rather not get Horry. ------------------ blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
If Horry can return to the player he was in 94-95 then its worth a 23. The Lakers have no draft picks this year (more incentive for the Lakers to make a trade). Plus that luxury tax breathing room doesn't hurt. I'd be happy with either Shandon or Robert at SF next season. ------------------
I still fail to see why a trade would be necessary. Why give up a pick when we can sign him outright? I know, I know... we need to save that space for Webber. But that article mentioned that the Lakers wanted to have some "breathing room" from the luxury tax, so they wouldn't be willing to accept that much salary in return. Besides, who do we have that they'd want? Kenny Thomas is the only player I can think of. ------------------ Lacking inspiration at the moment...
If he can return to be that type of player, he would be worth #13(If we're looking to win now) He was about 13, 7, and 5 I think ------------------ President of the Committee to prevent the drafting of Gerald Wallace "You know who the best rebounder in Chicago is?
