I know deep down some fans don’t like it. Don’t worry he will eventually lead this city to it’s first super bowl and win it.
This is an incredibly smart deal for both sides. For Texans: You lock up Watson for the next 6 seasons. But, if Watson somehow (very very unlikely) doesn’t live up to this deal (plays more like a top 10-15 QB rather than top 5 QB) then you cut ties with him after 2026 instead of like 2030 or however long the Chiefs are tied to Mahomes. For Watson: you get PAID right now. Get over $100 million in guarantees. And by the time this deal expires he’ll still be only 30 years old. So if he consistently performs like a top 5 QB the next few seasons, there’s no reason why he and the Texans couldn’t work on another extension in say 2024 or 2025 that would get him PAID AGAIN. Or, let’s say the Texans for some reason are hesitant to extending him again down the road, he’d be hitting free agency at age 30 and would still have a good chance at another big deal. Really don’t see any flaws to this deal whatsoever.
Not to mention, the next deal could be way more than mahomes, as crazy as that sounds. There's a good chance the cap could jump again by the time, and there'll be a new CBA.
Hopefully, he now has the confidence to say, "WTF do you mean that you don't have a play for 4th and 1 inside the opponent's 15 yard line?"
Now just get rid of Bill O'Brien and get a real head coach and maybe the Texans have a bright future.
"..And coach, if you want to kick the field goal that's great too just don't decide to fake punt it from our own end chasing a decision shifting the momentum. No pressure, coach. I'm bout to clear the set like Lil' Wayne, for disrespecting my game. "
