It's kinda fun watching McCain walk a tightrope here. He has to show party unity, so he says just enough to say, I'm with the President, and leave it at that---no, "GWB is the greatest thing since...." comments. Considering the way GWB used his backers in South Carolina to completely smear McCain---"hello, this is Arbusto International Political Scumbag Polling Services, would you be more likely or less likely to vote for John McCain if you knew he has an illegitimate half-black child?" "uh, less interested! The South will rise again!"---I wonder how McCain can stomach GWB at all. Anyway, a Kerry-McCain ticket is the Dream Team scenario, especially since it would pose a formidable challenge to the incumbent, but....would McCain step out from his party to do that? He tends to be rather moderate, a hawk on military and pro-life but a Democrat in most other aspects. Kerry seems to be taking something of a beating on national defense, right or wrong, and McCain would counter that. Too bad it's a pipe dream.
Maybe Chuck Hagel as well?? I don't know if I agree with Kerry taking a beating on national defense, its way too early to tell. Most people don't know anything about Kerry yet, and no matter how much slime Bush/Cheney throw, they can never get rid of images like this...
Since this was where some discussion of McCain as Kerry's VP got some traction, I thought some of you might find this little article from the Boston Herald interesting reading... Maverick McCain rips GOP By Noelle Straub Friday, April 2, 2004 WASHINGTON - Sen. John McCain yesterday unleashed an attack on his own party, saying the GOP is ``astray'' on key issues and criticizing President Bush [related, bio] on the war in Iraq. "I believe my party has gone astray,'' McCain said, criticizing GOP stands on environmental and minority issues. "I think the Democratic Party is a fine party, and I have no problems with it, in their views and their philosophy,'' he said. "But I also feel the Republican Party can be brought back to the principles I articulated before.'' The maverick senator made the remarks at a legislative seminar hosted by U.S. Rep. Martin T. Meehan (D-Lowell) as he again ruled out running on a ticket with Democrat John F. Kerry [related, bio]. The Arizona Republican took on President Bush for failing to prepare Americans for a long involvement in Iraq, saying, "You can't fly in on an aircraft carrier and declare victory and have the deaths continue. You can't do that.'' McCain said the U.S. should seek more U.N. involvement in Iraq. "Many people in this room question, legitimately, whether we should have gone in or not,'' he said, adding that that debate ``will be part of this presidential campaign.'' http://news.bostonherald.com/election2004/view.bg?articleid=1611 The speculation ain't over, folks. This doesn't sound like someone who has closed the door to me. Far from it.
Images like what? The only reason the man got a Silver Star is because he was an officer. In the hierarchy of the military, if Private Snuffy charges an enemy mortar pit with bayonettes fixed after he ran out of ammo, mercilessly slaughters the 10 enemy soldiers thus saving the lives of his platoon and incapacitated platoon leader and platoon sergeant, then performs combat life saving first aid on his squad leader and then carrying him back behind the line amid a hail of machine gun fire, getting wounded 3 times in the process, he could be qualified for a Bronze Star with a "V" device or possibly a Silver Star. His worthless LT will receive a Silver Star as well as his platoon sergeant just because they are in his chain of command. What exactly did John Kerry do in Vietnam to warrant this "heroic" image he has given himself? Oh and why does this war experience suddenly matter 4 years after the worst draft dodging, anti-American military President we have ever had? I cannot believe the hypocrisy of people these days. The only time I liked McCain is when he hosted SNL.
Ignorant? You obviously have no idea how the military works. Then Lt. David Grange was leading a Ranger team on recon in Vietnam when they were surrounded and outnumbered (LRS/LRPS teams were not very large). They were being torn to pieces when Lt. Grange called in artillery on his own position which he would later get a Silver Star for, but the artillery landed forward of their position. Lt. Grange was awarded the Silver Star because he was an officer. An enlisted man was out on the perimeter pulling back his comrades and patching them up while sustaining multiple wounds. What did he get? An Army Commendation Medal with a "V" device. YOu want to talk about ignorance? Defend Kerry some more.

This would all be relevant if we didn't know why Kerry got his Silver Star, and we could maybe think that Kerry didn't really do anything to earn it and only got it because he was an officer. Of course, since that's not the case and we know exactly what he did to get the Silver Star, it's just a bunch of irrelevant crap.
It is very relevant. He got a higher award because he was an officer. I will guarantee you if he was enlisted he would've gotten a Navy commendation medal. The same applies to Jessica Lynch. They both got their awards only because of politics within the military. I wasn't referring to John McCain's military service. I was referring to John McCain as a politician. You need to get your head out of your ass. Don Bendell former Green Beret John Kerry is so great, right? He's a liberal, worthless POS who is the epitome of the Democratic party.
I just dont understand how someone can be so hateful. Is it because of the shield of the internet, or do you think that guy is just like that all the time?
Why does someone who doesnt agree with you have to have their head up their ass, and why do you need to call John Kerry, someone you obviously know nothing about, a "worthless POS"? Let's raise the level of discourse here. How can you be expect to be taken seriously when you call Kerry a " liberal" or the "epitome of the Democratic party" as if that is negative. Thats just ignorant thinking. Political debate in here shouldnt be about who is good or bad, and how well you can slander the other side. Where does that get you? But to get back on point, John Kerry did not get the silver star, bronze star, and three purple hearts because of "politics". He was awarded for his bravery on the battlefield. All you have to do is look at his records. There actual documented evidence out there, there's no room or need for conjecture. Also. as I have said before, almost every male member of my family has been in the military, including my father and uncles who fought during Vietnam, and my grandfathers in World War II. So believe me, I dont need a lesson on the military from anyone.
