All things said can be true. He can be a solid player, while also overdrafted... because it's not just about production:draft position, but draft position:where everyone else might have drafted him. If you could have traded down, gotten mover value and still gotten him, that clearly would have been better. It also ties into the LT thing - seems like they REALLY thought he'd be their left tackle for a bit there, hence them ultimately having to move so many assets to pry away Tunsil. And finally... that he's injured is just a fact. Even if he was the best OL in the league for 3 games, if he was injured for the other 13, his value would be limited. And all of that can be true while simultaneously being happy he's proven to be a competent lineman who I hope can return even better and stay healthy...
...and I will add that when he was drafted, the Texans didn't have Laremy Tunsil. Tytus was drafted to be a LT on a line that was horrible the previous year.
Sometimes the best move in the draft, is to stay where you are. Dillard looks like an early bust or atleast will take a few seasons to get right. If Howard stays healthy, smart non-move by the Texans.
I'm sure it is an Legitimate injury. The question is....is it serious enough for ending his season? Or it allows him to be an IR stash.
Ok. One of the reasons the Texans traded for Tunsil is to prevent what is happening to Dillard. All the expectations of a young Starting LT placed upon his shoulders. Not all young Lineman are ready for that. By Starting Howard at Guard then Right Tackle, he was able to gain confidence. You saw him improve every game. The benefit is now you have Bookend Tackles that could be together atleast 4 or 5 years (Health withstanding).
couldn't agree more. for all the negativity around this franchise the past year, the fact it took one offseason to make our biggest weakness one of our biggest potential strengths is very admirable. it's not a band-aid but a long term solution, and an investment in keeping your franchise QB around for as long as possible.
If you have a perceived franchise QB, and no O-line investment/consistency... its like buying a top of the line HD TV and refusing to pay for anything that has HD content. You don't optimize one without the other. If you have both, its your best chance to make noise.
Looking like a franchise RT (remember when they tried to make him a Guard?? LOLLL) I still would have drafted Josh Jacobs, but Tytus has grown on me.
And you would be an idiot. The Texans were not trying to make him a guard. They were trying to get him on the field for experience, but did not want him to be a tackle initially for confidence reasons.
