I think it has been correctly pointed out in another thread that the defensive player can legally be in the paint behind the offensive player as long as the defensive player is/remains within an arms length of the offensive player. Other than this condition, no one on the defense can be in the paint for over 3 seconds (similar to the current offensive 3 seconds). Also in the prior thread, there was a concern how frequently the defensive 3 seconds would be called. Surely, it WILL get called. My question is this. If the defense is guilty (and it's called), does the offense shoot free throws? If that's the penalty, does the offense shoot immediately or is the first 3 seconds a "freebie" and shots are awarded after the second call on the defense? Lastly, when are these calls going to start? There is no reference at the Portsmouth or Desert. Perhaps the RMR is when we'll see it first. ------------------ GATER
I just hope it doesn't end up slowing the game as much as the illegal defense rule, which I fear it might. ------------------
Yeah, and in that other thread, another good question was brought up, but not really debated. What if both an offensive & defensive player are in the lane for the same 3 seconds. Who gets called? I guess it'd be the offensive guy, because the defensive guy can be there as long as he's within an arm's length of the offensive guy in the paint, right? ------------------ Founding Father of the Refs Suck Club
Another question . . .what is the penalty for 3 Seconds in the Lane Defense. . .. . a new 24 . . wwwooooowwwww If it is a Tech Shot. . . then how is this different than illegal D Rocket River ------------------
I guess the main difference between illegal D and the 3 second call is illegal D is so hard to call. It's hard to tell when a defense is in fact illegal, but a 3 second call on the defense is fairly cut and dry. ------------------ You must always give the Dream back his change!
the penalty will be a tech ft and a shot clock reset to 14 (stays the same if there is more than 14 secs left on the clock). the difference is that there will be no warning, ie the fts will be shot from the very first call. ------------------
