    From sportstalk.com:

Jordan might have competition for the Nets 7th pick. As Insider reported yesterday, the Houston Rockets have also contacted the Nets offering the 13th and 18th picks in the draft.

Thorn told reported in a conference call yesterday that the Nets have fielded an offer for two lower first- round draft picks for the No. 7 pick. "We could potentially get some real quality guys, but I would not anticipate anything like that," Thorn said.

Of course anyone says not to anticipate a deal until it happens-- that's the nature of the business. But the fact that he mentioned the offer on his conference call and said that they could get some "real quality guys" makes me think there's a good chance something could get done.

I think that Thorn is just bluffing, he is just goofing around.

Trading up with the Nets would be an ideal place to be in Round 1. You basically guarantee yourself one of the 3 guys that the Rockets apparently have been looking closely at, Joe Johnson, Rodney White or possibly Shane Battier if the draft goes haywire. It seems to make good sense for both sides as the Nets could fill holes at the C and SG positions with the 13 and 18 picks. Also, considering they are in the East, they could look at PF/C type players that are very good rebounders.

The Rockets have made it easy for speculation. They will trade any or all of their picks for a higher one. To question the validity of the report, ask if any of the players we have heard discussed will be there at 7. Vladimir might be. Battier won't. Gasol? Doubtful.

    TRG,

If you take a look at Clutch's post from last night, you'll see that Joe Johnson had a spectacular workout with the Rockets, and they feel he can start right away and be a star over the coming years. The Rockets often hype up players to the media that they aren't so interested in, and try to protect the ones that do interest them. The three players coincidentally that the Rockets have said the least about were Vladimir Radmanovic, Joe Johnson, and Ken Johnson. If the Rockets move up to the Nets pick, that is a prime landing spot to grab Joe Johnson, and they would still be able to take Ken Johnson most likely with the 23rd.

I don't think it's possible to have 3 rookies on the roster, so obviously we're desperate to move up. We would be in a great position if we moved to #7. We could take our pick of which player falls into our lap.

Picks 5-7 should be interesting assuming Griffin, Brown, Curry and Battier will be used on picks 1-4. We may be able to select one of the following:

    Chandler
    Gasol
    White
    Johnson
    Diop
    Richardson

3 of these guys will fall to #7. Who should the Rockets select?

    With this in mind:

An NBA source told Insider that White is unlikely to be the number one pick in the draft. A more likely scenario is for Jordan to trade down in the draft and snatch White there. Right now it's believed that White will likely be drafted as early as pick 7 by the New Jersey Nets. It's no coincidence that Jordan and Nets president Rod Thorn have been exchanging calls. Insider reported last week that Jordan offered the Nets shooting guard Richard Hamilton in exchange for the number 7 pick. A league source told Insider that Thorn, too, has become enamored with White and isn't willing to part with his pick just for Hamilton. If the Wizards were also willing to part with forward-center Etan Thomas, the Nets might be willing to do the deal, the source told Insider.

Acquiring the number one pick would give the Rocks a lot of options. We could trade it to Washington for Hamilton ourselves, or, beter yet, try and get the nuber 1 pick from them in exchange for our number 7 and, say, Walt and Shandon (sign and trade- if feasible). Acquiring the Nets pick would be very very good regardless. We could just keep it to draft White ourselves.

I'm all for drafting Joe Johnson w/ the Nets pick and Ken Johnson at 23. That would probably be a first, drafting two guys with the same name in the same year.

It is looking more and more doubtful with getting Terance Morris. If we trade up, it will very likely be for a SF, and we need a C at 23.

Battier will be gone, therefore the real question is Joe Johnson or Rodney White?

Rodney White has been the big name bandied around and would be a nice pickup for this team, however, I think Joe Johnson would be an ideal fit. An explosive point forward with above average shooting skills would be a very nice fit on this team. A player like Johnson in addition to better rebounding/defending up front would really improve the transition game of this team and better utilize its youth.
