Would the Rockets be better off missing the playoffs?

  1. Don't be silly, the playoffs are better.

1 if we finally make the playoffs the team does not need a major overhaul. Who do you think we are the Clippers. We make a team overhaul we wont make the playoffs for another 4 years.

2 We dont get a 1st rd draft pick.

3 I have to agree this is the dumbest tread ever

    What major overhall?

How can you overhall a NBA team that has only three (possibly four) players that GM's would want. YM is not going anywhere, so that leaves SF and CM. YM is the CORE, and everyone else is a roleplayer.

Trading roleplayers is never an overhall. The Sixers could trade every player on that team, but if they kept AI then it's not an overhall.

It's only an overhall from a salary standpoint.

    Yao Ming
    Elton Brand
    Eric Snow

    = dynasty

Worst thread ever? you don't read these forums much do you :D

i think clutch said this in an earlier thread. we will have a pick if we go to the lottery, but won't if we go to the playoffs, part of some deal we made earlier.

This is true. But, it isn't like we get out of paying if we don't pay this year. If we miss the playoffs this year, we'll have to pay that pick next year, most likely with fewer protections on it.

    Hell no.

These guys need to know what it feels like to win in the playoff.

Regardless, watching this season should give enough reason for "massive changes" ... otherwise Les Alexander is simply not cut for the job.

We must make the playoffs. For what little sanity this team has left me, if for no other reason.
Then we make major changes during the offseason with the mle, the exception and trades. And I'm looking forward to that almost as much as the playoffs.

How would the non CF.net posting fans feel if the Rockets didn't make the playoffs? I could see ticket sales plummetting and SOR being jump started.

No doubt, we must make the playoff. Make all the necessary changes later. More fans will come next season.

Theres no reason that rockets should give up the playoffs.we have missed it for a long time.Playoffs will hearten the team and fans.also, playing the playoffs will make ROX's problem quite clear and give the management clues to solve it.so,why not?can you sure if rockets missed the playoffs they would make a wiser change?I doubt it!

Stupid Memphis. The one time I was rooting for them to win and beat Utah they lose and screw us over. Screw the Grizz!

This thread would not be here if Rox did not lose 4 straight.
The feelings of people are hurt.
But then this is asking for a rational reaction in a poll?

    The two does not match.

No one will post here anymore if Rox win the next two, when wounds are healed.

OMG, people are actually b****ing at another team for not beating the Jazz....this board has reached a new low.

Here's an idea, the Rockets might want to WIN a few games to secure a playoff spot...

Do we have a pick if in the lottery anyway? I thought we owed Memphis or someone like our first pick unless it is lottery protected...

but, regardless, backing in, inching in, lucking in, whatever the case, playoffs are better.....the chances of landing a top 3 if our pick is lottery protected is lunancy...imagine sitting at #13? ya, that is good for this team.....

Look, we blew it with Griffin...lets move on and get int he playoffs to at least build something...

I think Steve has more value than we admit here. Granted, he drives us crazy. He has good value as an AI kind of guy. Other team owners will also recognize that he sells tickets (not in Houston, I guess, but in the East, beggars can't be choosers). If you trade Steve and Cato, an actual center, you'll get something of value in return.

Another reason this is faulty logic: If missing the playoffs forces the Rockets' hand in trading, it will reduce the value of the players we trade away. Did you see the Chron article today about the 'historical collapse.' If we were to somehow miss the playoffs (which I still don't consider a possibility) it would be a choke-job of such stupendous proportions that all the other GMs in the league will smell blood in the water. We won't get fair value in trade for our guys because of the pressure on the team to trade. Remember the Ray Allen for FA-to-be Gary Payton? Did Milwaukee get fair value after their choke job? No, if you want trades in the offseason, it's important that we do make the playoffs.

Excellant points! As for the Bucks trade last year....JV, there were A LOT of people supporting the Bucks on that trade. Ridiculous. I agree with you. The Bucks got hosed on that trade and got less than market value. That's not the situation we want to get ourselves into either.

We won't make the playoffs...We don't deserve to win, but the remaining games will tell us...

I don't know what our magic number is, if we even have one with the 8th spot only two games behind us...
