even if he continues to shoot bad, the lane is open for driving? Capela can’t even shoot or drive when harden passes out of a double team to him...

I think 3 point percentage goes down for players on the Rockets bc of the volume of threes they take. It’s hard to average 40% when they take a ton no matter what. If they’re cold then they might go 1 of 9. If they’re hot then they might go 5 of 9. Either way they are taking 9 threes a game. Hot or cold, it doesn’t matter in the Rockets system. You take threes or you sit on the bench.

Well the point I'm trying to make is that we don't really have a choice other than adding a Ryan Anderson type player. It's easy to say "we need 40% shooters" but what does that really mean? If you want a guy who shoots 40%, but plays atrocious defense, we already tried that with Ryan Anderson. I think you would see the same thing if we got someone like Doug McDermott, Joe Harris, JJ Redick, Bojan Bogdovanic, Bjelica...I don't think it would work. So now if you say okay, lets get that kind of shooter who's got some length, and I'd really like him to be a great defender too. Well, if that's the kind of player you want, you're getting into a player that demands a 25+ million salary. You basically described Kris Middleton or Paul George.

So what I'm trying to say is it's not realistic to get a 3 point sniper who also plays defense on the rockets. Yeah, it's nice to say "where are all our shooters? Why don't we have guys taking 10 a game making 40%? But think about what you're really asking for. What type of player do you think fits, and what is that players salary? And with the rockets assets + Tilmans financial restrictions, how do they acquire this player?

    This.

There is more to being a very good BB player than just being a sharp shooter. If that was the case, our own beloved Ben Mac wouldn't be making the minimum, for two years.

The answer to better shooting is to expand the rotation. This was going to happen by incorporating Gordon back to the usual 8 players in the rotation. 9 players. Better legs, better shooting. Without Westbrook, we are back to 8 players, unless MDA is willing to try Moulte or Carroll.

The Rockets targeted and traded for Covington because he can cover all 5 spots on the floor at a high defensive level. He has really long and active arms, he has very quick feet, he is quite strong and difficult to move in the post. That is the primary value of Covington, all he has to do is shoot well enough from 3 so that the spacing isn't an issue.

As a defender, he is the overall the Rockets have had in many years. The Rockets have played him a lot at the 4 and 5. He has adjusted his game to play more inside and is getting over 8 rebounds and almost 2.5 blocks a game with the Rockets.....

He basically has done everything (and more) that the Rockets have asked of him except shoot the 3 ball well. However it is a small sample size during COVID with a long break and restart. He also is taking more 3's than usual and never really has been a knock down three point shooter...... as a shooter he is more like Ariza than anyone else.

He is a substantially better player for the Rockets than Clint Capela.

Robert Covington is my favorite Rocket by since he was a Rookie on the Rockets.

Being with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. Winning D League All Star MVP.

Robert Covington transformed and evolved so much since being released by Daryl and keeping Old Francisco Garcia. I was so angry at Daryl at that time.

Very Happy he is back, Clint Capela is extremely Overpaid, and Never Evolved as a Player. Never learned how to shoot a midrange, 3 point shooting, drive to the basket.

Clint is a Outdated Center in Todays NBA.
Pick And Dunk and Rim Running. Is covered up in the Playoffs. Defenses are tight in the Paint in the Playoffs.

Like a Pascal Siakam, Aaron Gordon.
Those Players can fit in Todays Center Role.
