Olowokandi is not going to help win any championships. ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater
We could keep Cato and pick up Brenda through the draft (mentioned above). He has as much of a chance to have a breakout year as Kandiman. I doubt the Clips would be that dumb to trade Kandi for a less talented and more injury prone Cato. It makes them look bad too, since he was a top lottery pick a few years back. I hope the Rockets don't draft Pau Gasol...bust. I sure hope its a ploy by management to get one of the other 11 teams ahead of them to pick him up. ------------------
http://bbs.clutchcity.net/ubb/Forum9/HTML/000756.html These numbers aren't "bustlike" to me. I think he is the real deal and I hope NJ picks him, that is of course if he stays in the draft. ------------------
I hope you mean Brenda having a breakout year. ------------------ "Minute after minute, hour after hour, the proud and strong knight struggled in vain against the wasp inside his armour."
Not true. The media was drooling over his "Raw Skills". Any team in the league would have taken him. He was hailed as the next Dream, Ewing, etc. ------------------ President of the Committee to prevent the drafting of Gerald Wallace "You know who the best rebounder in Chicago is? The trainer chasing all of Wallace's missed shots."------NBAtalk
I think that these guys are similar, Cato is a bit more defensive or at least we know he can be, and Olowokandi is a bit more offensive. I think this scenario depends on who is at PF. If its Webber we could spare some offense. If its someone else we could use a little. If the Clips are shopping him I just kind of doubt they would be looking to take on a contract like Cato's. I think that Olowokandi has a potential upside, but similar answers could be found in the draft. My point is that if Webber is in Houston a platoon of mediocraty could be ok so why focus on potential when it is available in the draft. It all depends on the PF.
The chances of us signing Webber are slim, very slim.We should push hard towards Marc Jackson instead, telling him we want him at PF.I think he(at 6'10")would like that better than C. I also know the Clippers are going to think realisticly about Kandi. They can get another C with the same stats as him in Cato as well as some experience and also a draft pick(13 or 18) that is deep at 5'S.The Clipps are well under the salary cap so his contract won't be that big of a concern as it is here.It works out for both teams.Kandi is 7' and 295lb,that is a true center. Our front court would be set for at least 10 years with the addition of those two, especially with dream showing them the ropes for at least one season. The only tough choice is picking Jackson over Taylor, but if Jackson was so successful last year at C,he would only be that much better at PF,plus he did his tour in the CBA and Rudy T likes that job experience a little more than Mo T's time with the Clipps complaining every chance he could. ------------------
I think that these guys are similar, Cato is a bit more defensive or at least we know he can be, and Olowokandi is a bit more offensive I disagree. I think alot of people find Cato's game to be very offensive. ------------------
The clips are a hard team to trade with they do not bleieve in signing their own free Agents the way to trade with them is to give three players with rookie contracts or draft picks to them for a possible all star whos contract is up and who is asking for large pay raise my hart goes out to clipper fans the NBA should force the owner to make his team competitive. Cato makes too much for the clips to even consider ------------------ [This message has been edited by ROCKETS1972 (edited June 10, 2001).]
Anyone who has seen Kandiman play lately, probably notices the improvement. As mentioned previously the guy was about as raw as you get coming out of Pacific. He didn't play against the top comp on a reg. basis, then he was dropped down onto Sterling's Good Ship Lollypop. Now,the Clips are on the move with talent and good coaching. Our penchant for developing big men, would help a guy like him who is already showing signs of realizing some of that potential. It takes these players awhile to develop and they do it at different rates. With guys coming out so early and the influx of foreign players, their growth rate is all over the board.I think this would be a fine opportunity to pick up a player who is starting just now to live up to the hype. ------------------ If I had my life to live over,I would have liked to have ended up as a sportswriter - Richard M. Even if we don't get him in a trade, it will at least show him that we're intrested in him. When his contract is up, I'm sure he'll look at us as a team to sign with. He's gonna have to realize that the Clipps are prob. gonna draft Curry. His starting job will definatly be in limbo. ------------------
he could become a free agent next season if we still neeed a center then he could be an intristing choise but i would like to see his stats inprove first ------------------
I think alot of people find Cato's game to be very offensive. I am not one of them. I didn't see him play much this year, but the guy came into the league as a shotblocker. He was a shotblocker in Portland and last year. I think that if you ask people what his best (positive) attribute is, they will mention his ability to block shots. Hes not a scorer more than he is a shotblocker is he? Unless this season he has been, but then why are all of these people wanting to trade him? Again these guys are about the same as far as production is concerned, I beleive Cato is more valuable on defense than Olowokandi, but Olowokandi in my opinion may have the ability to score more points down the road. I know Cato's salary is a big problem, so he'll be here more than likely. Lets give him another year and see if things look up. If hes healthy and feeling good I think they might. Maybe looking at Olowokandi next year will be more realistic.
