WOW, astros with a nice first inning. 3 runs already. 6 hits for the good guys. Lamb having a nice hitting day against the lefty. Game is on 740 KTRH. AUDIO: http://www.ktrh.com/audio.html Man I am pumped up for the season. This is a good game so far. I love MMP.
Miller with 80 pitches already, and it is only the 3rd inning!!!! He can't hit the zone. 6-3 KC MILLER is getting rocked out there today,.....UGH. Three guys in a row, each with 3-1 counts before their hits then a 3 run bomb. ALL this was done with only 1 out needed. 6 runs on 6 hits by KC....Glad this is pre-season still.
Historically (going back to 2001), Houston has always had very bad performances in these final two games at MMP. I know because every year before this one, I forked over the $$$ because I was so desperate for some baseball. Its hard because a.) they're playing at home, finally, after a long-ass spring training where they're away from their families. and b.) they're excited to be playing in a real major league ballpark... but its not opening day, and its not sold out, and you've still got non-major leaguers playing. I guess its just more $$$ for Drayton, but I'd like them to wait till the actual opening day to play at MMP... maybe even an exhibition at the dome!
I was dissapointed that Roger didnt pitch last night.. It would nice to have him get a good last start at MMP before the season starts.. hopefully this is the last time that he will be missing an astros event this year
First of all, he didn't miss pitching a game. He went and pitched for the AAA team and did alright (think it was 4ER over 6, it said in the paper today). It's a funny thing that he didn't pitch for the real Astros last night, actually. He asked Gerry if he could pitch the AAA game early, so that he could watch his son play last night. His son happens to go to my high school, Memorial H.S., home of the Mustangs! We have a REALLY TALENTED team who improved to 7-0 in district play last night. We faced our biggest, most hated rival, Stratford. Both teams are neck and neck in the standings every year, it's one of the best divisional races around. The most important part is that Memorial was down 1-6 but came back to win 13-6. Roger didn't miss the big league game for naught because he saw his son get, I believe 2 hits one of which was a 2 out 2 RBI single. I'm sure Roger enjoyed it and I'm glad he was there supporting the team.
I'm aware he pitched a minor league game.. and I'm well aware that he went to a HS game.. but it still concerns me when he pitched pretty bad in the game probably because he was thinking of his trip home. ( I wouldn't consider 4 runs given up against a minor league team to be good). . just like he admitted to pitching bad in a game earlier this spring because he had been at home watching his son and was worried about that. hopefully he wont' be distracted during the year. I just prefer that his last tune up before the season is against at least a big league team..
Actually he didnt play for AAA though.. that would have been a decent warm up. it was 4 runs he gave up against a single A team.. which well.. I dont know how you can say that is pretty good pitching
Who said he did good? I said he did alright. I'm with you though on hoping he's not distracted, and it would have been better for him to have faced a major league team but oh well. He's Roger Clemens, he'll be fine during the season. If he's not, it won't be because he's distracted but simply because he's 41. Once again, the most important thing is that MHS beat SHS.
Sorry about all the posts but wanted to say one last thing. I know when Roger signed here we all knew he would miss these few things and since we knew it coming in I don't have a problem with it, because that is what it took to get him. I am just slightly worried that being home for the first time during the season.. he will have quite a few distractions. The same can be said for any player who moves to his home team for the first time. I think the final outing of spring training is important and not facing a big league team during that final outing is something that worries me a little
LOL Let it go, man, let it go!! It's the Rocket, have faith. Once again, he missed the big league game for a great cause.
I have hope.. it's just he already admitted once this spring to pitching badly because he was distracted after watching his son pitch too many innings and being sore.. and then 4 runs against a single A team on the day he was heading home.. I tend to think that shows he is distracted by being home..
I agree, I agree. It was spring training though, and I tend to think he'll know how to handle himself during the regular season.
Even if his son's team wins the state title, their season will be over mid June. Rocket won't be distracted for long.
true.. I should give him more credit.. I just know if I for the first time got to play at home in front of all my family and friends for a season.. I'd be distracted.
Thanks for pointing that out. That's good to know. I don't like how he gave up so many runs against a minor A team. BUT, whatever. He is back home for the first time. AND he did sign with us with the knowing that he would want to spend time with his family. As long as he steps it up to the Rocket level in the season, I will be a happy fan. On a side note, for what I have seen/heard of Astros spring games, Lamb isn't too shaby.
