DUNEDIN, Fla. - Houston Astros (news) shortstop Adam Everett was hit in the face by a pitch from Toronto's Miguel Batista on Saturday.

Everett was motionless on the ground for more than a minute, but he got up and walked off the field under his own power with help from a trainer. He left the game with a bruise on his upper left lip and nose, and is day to day.

Everett batted .256 with eight homers and 51 RBIs last year, his first full season in the majors.

The Astros and Everett got lucky on this one. This could have been a brutal injury. Hopefully he will be healthy enough to go in the opener.

Batista hit David Bell in the head Thursday. He hit another in the hip and was eventually tossed for coming up and in with another hitter.
