I agree and with so many elderly luminaries I think they should’ve tried social distancing. Again when I say we don’t have the will to fight this I mean Left and Right. I’ve seen a lot of people at protests not wearing masks. Hugging and holding hands. I understand this is a difficult time and people want contact but we need to balance that with the virus.
We should agree to disagree. One of our political parties pretty much openly admits there are different rules for different people, based on their political status or income. But the party I prefer at least likes to make noise that we should all play by the same rules and all make sacrifices for the common good. I don't see why being a civil rights hero means your friends and family can ignore a public health emergency. I'm disappointed they didn't come up with something other than a traditional indoor funeral with people shoulder to shoulder, when we're asking everyone else to avoid such, but whatever. It's not that big a deal to me. And yeah, I'm sure a lot of this snippy criticism is just politically motivated, and some of the people complaining wouldn't care at all if a republican had a nice indoor funeral service with moving, maskless eulogies. But I don't care about that. Obama and Biden just came out with a clip of their phonecall with a NY doctor, and they're all complaining about people ignoring public health advice... right after he gave a maskless indoor address. It's not a good look, and I think it's actually a missed opportunity. Have a respectful, distanced, outdoor funeral, with people speaking at the outdoor podium. Then visiting the man in state, a few at a time, or something like that, in a distanced, mask-wearing line. Thanks, rj, and I agree. California, with its democratic, aggressive governor and left-leaning, allegedly science-friendly politics, just crossed 500,000 confirmed cases. It's a horror show. Mrs. B-Bob and I were just out for a simple walk and passed some loud, unmasked youth bragging about their salaries, and I thought, 'god help us.' Our society, overall, doesn't have the will to keep fighting COVID.
Should have been both outside and socially distanced. I know the heat is a MF right now, they could have had shade umbrella/tents though, unless everybody there tested negative that day there's no way it can be seen as responsible.
I am OK with agreeing to disagree. It was essentially a state funeral. No state funeral was ever outdoors, at least in modern times. Could and should it have been? Sure, though super hot, and lots of older people in DC summer heat, but sure, could have happened. My bigger issue... the complaints from those on the right. And they would have complained anyway, about the numbers of people, or the content of the speakers, or some other reason. But agree to disagree... yea, I am ok with that.
I guess I should complain that Trump can have indoor rallies with music while I can't play a gig in a bar.
How hard would it have been for trump to say something good about congressman Lewis. Apparently, impossible, since Lewis didn't attand his inauguration...
