https://www.insider.com/best-disinfectants-for-viruses The best disinfectants for viruses and which ingredients to look for Here are the most common active ingredients in these EPA-registered disinfectants: Isopropanol or Ethanol (Alcohol) are effective disinfectants when used at a high enough concentration. Most cleaning products that contain alcohol have at least a 70% solution, and hand sanitizers should contain at least 60% alcohol to be effective. They become less effective over time because the alcohol will evaporate. Quaternary Ammonium Compounds are widely used as surface disinfectants and can be found in many household cleaners including disinfectant wipes and sprays. Research has shown quaternary ammonium compounds to effectively kill most bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Sodium Hypochlorite (Bleach). The active ingredient in bleach is sodium hypochlorite, which can kill viruses, bacteria, and fungi. Bleach can be used on frequently touched surfaces like doorknobs and countertops but it must air dry for at least 10 minutes before wiping to effectively kill pathogens. Because bleach can irritate the skin, you should wear gloves when using it. Hydrogen Peroxide is not as strong as bleach but does have disinfectant properties that effectively kill viruses and bacteria. A 2018 study published in Antimicrobial Resistance and Infection Control found that hydrogen peroxide was more effective in killing some forms of bacteria than quaternary ammonium compounds. The typical 3% hydrogen peroxide concentration found in stores can be used as a disinfectant.
@mick fry brain's hill to die on Trump’s eyebrow-raising query came immediately after William N. Bryan, the acting undersecretary for science and technology at the Department of Homeland Security, gave a presentation on the potential impact of summer heat and humidity, which also included references to tests that showed the effectiveness of different types of disinfectants. He recounted data from recent tests that showed how bleach, alcohol and sunlight could kill the coronavirus on surfaces. Bryan said bleach killed the virus in about five minutes and isopropyl alcohol killed it in 30 seconds.
There it is... trump's losing so he threatens a direct assault on democracy. The republicans in the senate bear responsibility for this.
Who cares what the reason behind this (internal polling show he is losing, excuse-making in advance of his loss, wag-the-tail to distract from horrible economic news, or to distract from his failure to respond to COVID-19). There has never been such a dangerous attack on America's democratic process...
Yes, when Trump suggested injecting disinfectant he meant the all-natural kind the hippies get at Whole Foods. Definitely.
This November there will be a total GOP wipe out at the polls. Worst quarterly GDP contraction for past 200 years and they sat on their hands, unprepared to this economic crisis. Terrible.
Trump is grasping at straws to make any excuse possible to call his upcoming slam down defeat a result of illegal and manipulated votes against him. He will never accept the fact that the majority can't wait to send him packing and see him locked away forever.
Trying to kill coronavirus with highly specialized medically-engineered disinfectant inside the body is only slightly less dumb than using off-the-shelf bleach. Disinfectants generally work by breaking down cell walls or doing other nasty things to undermine cells, and it's pretty hard to make it discriminate between friend and foe. You'd need some delivery system that can identify which bodies are human cells and which are pathogens so you only apply the disinfectant to the pathogens. The human immune system does that. Maybe someday we'll have nanobots that can do that. But right now, it doesn't exist.
While I certainly hope you are right, never assume. The Republican Party, more than in any other election in recent history, deserve to be crushed at the polls. However, it requires the majority of Americans, and a majority of Americans want that to happen, to vote in massive numbers and to insure that their votes are counted. If anyone needs to be inspired in order to get out and vote, watch President Obama's eulogy of John Lewis, which the President gave today at the funeral in Atlanta. I'm sure it will be available to watch soon, if it isn't up yet without commercials scrolling across the bottom.
