Minnesota Timberwolves, after they lose to the almighty underdog Houston Rockets in the first round of the 2003-04 playoffs. It would be the 7th (or 8th) straight first round outs for them.
Even when Atlanta was making the playoffs and having good seasons they had attendance problems. Fans in Atlanta are horrible. That is why I picked the Hawks. Even if they were a good team, they would be in a bad situation.
I feel sorry for GSW.. it might be because thats my hometeam and they kind of stink. The fans out here still support them and go out to watch the game but arent really getting anything back from the team in terms of development plan or progress. Last year they had some nice pieces in Jamison, Arenas (both quite overpaid) and still have Richardson, and Dunleavy.. Dampier is making a name for himself and so is Troy Murphy. thats a decent team and if still together may be fighting for the 8th spot this year. What bad timing.. I just dont know why players dont seem to develop in GS but flourish somewhere else? J
I voted Atlanta, they are in the worst city in the USA (fan wise). They have gone through a lot. Their fans suck. New ownership, perhaps moving....
Mine goes to Orlando, too. They put all their eggs in two baskets, only to learn that one of them is injured for life. -- droxford
Dude, how can you put Chicago in this poll and not Denver? Everybody's already covered why Chicago shouldn't get consideration, and I agree... Denver, on the other hand has been bad for a very, very long time. And just when it looked like they might start turning things aroung, it looks like they might miss the playoffs again after all. I feel sorry for Nuggets fans and would like to see the team have some success. Still, I might have to go with Golden State given the choices. They also seem to just have no luck getting over the hump.
Well, the Nuggets have proven that they can win, albeit for a short time. They were near the top of the conference for the first couple months of the season. I don't think Chicago has even spent one day over .500 since Jordan left. The Nuggets also have a star player to build around. Would you build an NBA team around Curry or Chandler? The Nuggets at least have a glimmer of hope. The Bulls are going nowhere right now.
OK, if you're talking each team's prospects right now , I'd have to agree that Chicago's future looks a lot more bleak than the Nuggets. But, based on history, I still feel more sorry for Denver. Chicago does have those 6 trophies, while Denver's only success in the last couple of decades was a stunning 8th seed upset of the Sonics in '94 (thank you Nuggets!!). Also, the Nuggies have had a star player to build around before... McDyess didn't take them very far.
Why should ANYONE feel sorry for the Bulls? They dominated the 1990s - I'm glad they suck. If they can suck until around 2010, the basketball gods will have done their work.
Adding on to my earlier vote. One team had a championship parade and rally in their town, three years in a row a few years back. And it wasnt even for them. It's gotta be the clips you have to feel sorry for.
I think the Clippers need to move down to San Diego again. LA is a big city, but the Clips will always be in the shadow of the Lakers.
I've got to pick LA and Washington because they're the only teams that haven't done anything special since I've been a fan. The Hawks were great when they had Nique and Willis. And Run TMC was one of my favorite teams to watch of all time. I wish suckitude upon the Bulls for all eternity. I'm loving their failures since the Jordan era. I superhate the Bulls.
No kidding. And what did they get for them? A few petrified terds and a stick of margarine. If they held on to Brand, Artest and Miller, they'd be cruising toward the playoffs. Just horrible team management.
