Isn't that the end state goal anyways?

Isn't the point of having a thriving economy with thriving businesses is to generate a high standard of living?

Being really friendly to new businesses isnt working for residents of Texas. Ya it attracts new businesses and helps with GDP growth but that growth isn't helping the bottom line of the average Texas resident when we look at quality of life metrics.

I made the anaolgy before but will repeat it. Texas is like that landlord that does aesthetic touches to the outside of the property and only renovate vacant units to attract new costumers while ignoring the demands of the current residents.

Not necessarily. While every state would love to have a large tax base and happy citizens how they define that might be different especially when it comes to education. One argument would be that even if the population has less education or might not have as high of a standard of living they are happy if they can work, afford a house and pay less in taxes.

Minnesota and Wisconsin over the last 20 years have been a cases study in different approaches. These states are neighbors, almost identical in demographics and close in size. In the last two decades Minnesota has tended to be a little more to the Left while Wisconsin a little to the Right. In the last presidential election it was less than a two difference between MN going for Clinton and WI for Trump. That minor difference has meant WI has been dominated by Republicans who have cut regulations, benefits and taxes. They've restricted unions and didn't take up the ACA. Meanwhile MN has done the opposite. This difference was very stark with Scott Walker as WI governor and Mark Dayton as MN. The result has been that MN on most economic indicators has been out performing WI with less unemployment and more tax revenue. MN's population has also grown slightly while WI has declined and is in danger of losing a House seat after this Census.

I wonder how much having the lowest percentage of insured Americans contributes to Texas also having some of the highest costs for premiums?

I'm sure it's similar to car insurance where states that have lower percentage of people insured have higher rates.

The bathrooms at Bucee's are pretty nice. A good friend of mine from MN came down a few years ago when the Gophers played a bowl game in Houston. He was blown away by Bucees ..

Are they happy not having health insurance?

My theory is that a educated community creates a thriving economy rather than a thriving economy creates a educated community.

htown has some corona issues, i know people that got it and so forth, but we're alright
people still go to the grocery store, get their car fixed, go outside when it's not raining

nobody trying to vandalize Mayor Turner's house.

And the folk in Austin are pretty hyped about Tesla.

I don't know who these people are who think Texas is horrible and that Harden sucks, that's not what the fanbase of this board should be
