I only brought this up because a while back, there was a thread wondering if we should've signed this guy.

Considering that he only got $3.5 mil for one year(and not the multi-year deal he asked for), I thought the Astros should've tried to enter the sweepstakes. Given Jimy's propensity to give his starters the early hook, Urbina would be a valuable bullpen depth, allowing us to continue have three shutdown relievers along with Lidge and Dotel.

Glad to hear he got in with someone, did any of you guys see the article on him in last weeks Sports Illustrated? Talked about how he was stuck outta work so he was just staying with a former coach or something like that.

Ugueth Urbina hadn't even thrown a pitch since the world series. I can't remember who it was but the team who he wanted to sign with weren't going to sign a guy who is out of shape. So here came the Tigers who have nothing to lose by signing him.

I believe Urbina wanted to go somewhere where he could be the closer.

    Wasn't an option here.

The Cleveland Indians wanted him until they learned he hadn't been working out.

Detroit's model is overpaying for questionable talent to try and become good enough to interest the fans and real FAs to go to Tigerland.
