What I find odd, is that the Democrats wanted Biden because he isn't a cause for enthusiasm but also isn't polarizing. To now try to make him into something else seems unnecessarily dangerous to me.
Actually the Russian operation to sow hatred and mistrust of democratic institutions pose themselves on every side of the political spectrum. Russia would of course prefer to have Trump elected and reelected. However, any increase in partisanship, hatred, distrust of one another and particularly declining trust in democratic institutions is a win for Putin. The Russian effort co-opts messaging from BLM, from All Lives Matter, #metoo, you name it. What side they're targeting doesn't matter so long as they can keep whipping up the social media hate storm.
This. The vast majority of motivation behind voting for Biden falls in the realm of "he's not divisive and will calm things down". The primary motivation for voting for Trump is "he says it like it is" or "he owns the libtards". There is much more animosity in the motivation to chose someone like Trump as your party's standard bearer. People who like Trump especially younger Trump supporters like him because Trump has the ability to insult without shame. That's a unique characters of a politican and gives the aura that this man is different and not a part of the crooked establishment. Most politicans have basic self-awareness to know when their diatribes and insults just look pathetic. Not Trump. His lack of self-awareness is probably the most unique and favorable trait amogst his base. Basically Trump insults people like the common non educated blue collar workers insults people. It humanized Trump for those people.
