The Houston Rockets already have $123 million committed to six players next season so they have be extra careful on how they spend will staying under the luxury tax line. The line is currently at $139 million but if that lowers, this could bode a problem for Morey.

They do have their mid-level exception which will help them with any potential deals that they would make but there’s only so many bullets that you have in your bazooka to pull off the unthinkable. That might not be enough.

Our best chance for a championship this year or in the near future is Eric Gordon. He is our X factor now and our only chance at difference maker in a trade during the offseason. EG’s play over the next few weeks is more than critical to rase his trade value for Rocket future success. Eric Gordon’s play will determine whether or not Harden & Westbrook will ever get a ring. EG is Rocket Basketball, at the moment.

I agree with you having to depend on the undependable is horrible. Gordon is a better than average role player paid like a star because he was in the perfect place, at the right time, plus Morey has a tendency to overpay. After signing his extension he broke down physically and emotionally. The team personal has changed so the needs of team did too. My hope is he healthy and ready because our future is on his shoulders at the moment.

EG is very much the key to our salary cap going forward. The next couple of weeks will turn him into a trade chip or Anderson like anchorage.

Luxury tax has never come up.
Daryl has the green light to bust the budget.
Daryl's hands are not tied behind his back.
We'll do whatever it takes to win.

Has there been any word from the league on solutions to the dramatically lower tax line?

Maybe they lower or waive taxes for next year?

Maybe they will allow teams to amnesty one player?

Allow teams to cut a player and stretch their salary over more years?

There are solutions to the issue that won’t screw over owners or players. I have faith that Silver will figure something out. That guy has been great so far.

Not too many role players can put up a 50 burger.

EGo is a quality starter and secondary scorer on most teams.

There is not one team in the league that would build around him as their main player. He fills a need/role at above average rate. A star no but still a solid player. I would like to see a few 50 point games from him more so than Harden & Westbrook over the next few weeks to show case his talent to up his trade value. He is our only hope in terms trade (one must give to get). Our cap space use will be determine by need. If there is a substantial trade the needs will change accordingly.

Are contracts void or compromised in the case of the enforceable such as a pandemic that make the league unprofitable?

I don't think there has been anything official from the league but there has been quite a bit of speculation from outside sources.

My thoughts are that they leave the soft cap and tax line where they are projected to be .... mainly because most teams would be in the tax with the projected losses and reduction in both the cap and tax line. Half the league is already projected to be above the cap at 109m with committed contracts.

As it is many quality players are going to get no more than the taxpayer MLE and many more will get nothing more than vet minimums. There will be bargains in this market because money will be so tight with so many teams.

The tax line being somewhere between 139 and 141m .... with the Rockets committed to 10 players for a total of 131,340,820 which includes Nwaba and Clemons who are non guaranteed team options and Rivers who has a player option.

I suspect the minimum will see a decline , maybe Rivers stays on that player option.

Nwaba and Clemons account for 3,380,015 between them. They could go or not .... really depends on health for Nwaba and a lot of moving parts for Clemons.

Ben McLemore is also non guaranteed for $2,283,034 but I don't see them getting a better player for the price - he probably stays.

They'll be 8-10m from the tax with 10 guys .... the 11th will get MLE money and everyone else minimums. Not sure how much next years MLE's are. They'll be over the tax line by a few million in filling out the roster.

The question is do they pay the tax or dump EG somewhere to dip under the tax ?

Of the players mentioned who are you willing to trade? (remember the other team has to say yes too)
